Default simtek working???

Hi all!!

Basically i am due to purchase a simtek ecu shortly but the buyer hasnt actually had it running in his own car (he bought second hand). Now im no expert at these things, so i am wondering -

is there any way i can tell if all is okay with it and it is running/working correctly when i pick it up???? Knowing he himself hasnt actually had it up and running in his own car has kinda made me think twice i guess?????......

Thanks guys
Andy

You should ask for the serial number. One has a disputed owner and ATM no mapper will touch it. When you get the serial number you can call Simtek and confirm which one it is, if its correct for your model year, if its locked etc

Basically there is a stolen one doing the rounds that is locked and unmappable, unless it has been return to its rightful owner. Its all documented on this site somewhere, along with pics of the serial number

If all is okay and working - Obviusly depending what had been mapped on it before my idle and stuff would possibly be rough right?? But would still start???

And if it was broken for instance and not working at all - my car wouldnt start???
Have i got that right bud???

Also is the seriel number the sticker on the main board?? i.e E1SY....
Someone mentioned before about ringing simtek and checking it hadnt been locked or something????...

if your car starts it will be fine

could be running rough for many reasons ie air intake system, injector size etc that it was mapped for before

as said just check the full serial number with a simtek mapper to make sure it's not the one in question that has the issue of ownership
