Just got myself my first Scoobie. 97 P plate UK Impreza Turbo, 16" Gold Alloys, STi Backbox, STi Spoiler, 58K, Full Subaru history, 2 months Subaru Warranty left, £9,300. Good Price?

Anyway, any help witht he following questions would be appreciated:

1) I have told Direct Line about the STi Backbox and it has put my insurance up, should it have done as it is still a Subaru exhaust?

2) I want to add a new air filter, which one should I go for? Was thinking of the K&N Induction kit (57i).

3) Direct Line said that I could put a new air filter on as long as the filter/exhaust combo does not put the BHP up by more than 10%. Does anyone Know the BHP figures for these two mods?

4) My friend who has a Z3 M Roadster keeps telling me to get a 'noisy' dump valve fitted. Comments? Bit concerned about the boy racer image this may project. (I am nearly 30! ;-))

5) Wanted to get it colour coded, but my local Subaru dealer quopted £500 + Vat. Too much cash, anyone know of anywhere cheaper in the East Midlands?

Thanks for any help given.

1,2 and 3 dont really know. But i'm sure if u post the question in the insurance section, someone will answer it.

4 - i did have a dumpvalve on my renault 5 turbo. people did call be a boy racer, due to the car and my age. With the scooby I want to stay away from d/v, but very tempting. Really an individual choice. To be honest on my R5, I did get ear ache in the summer because the windows were open and everythime I changed gear or used the turbo the d/v would make a noise.

Chod,

I have the induction kit on my UK turbo and it alone makes plenty of whooshing noises if thats what you want.

Cheers,

Duncan..

On the insurance query - insurance companies can do what they like if the car has been modified from original parts. Normally they wouldn't care about cosmetic enhancements but anything which might improve performance will probably result in a loaded premium. A STi backbox alone will probably result in minimal power gains. Adding an induction filter, you might get an extra 10 bhp if you're lucky.

Cool

Chod,

IMHO if u get +10% out of a backbox and a filter u r doin well.
Different if u were decatting at the same time then yeah, but u should b safe enough with just the above

Nearly 30 ah jus a young wipper snapper then
If u want loud get a blitz super sound D/V but if u r putting an induction filter on, at the same time u may find that the system will dump most of the pressure through the filter so the D/V won`t b as loud as it could be.
