Nice to meet those who were met on Sunday / southern meet. I hope you all had a safe trip to your destinations.

I had a great nearly miss on the way home after I left the Quays. I was on the M3 heading home (London) as you know it was pissing down I was in the fast lane doing 80mph 200 meters behind a 330ci and in front of that was a Golf GTI holding up the over takers even though he could of moved in to the middle lane. This line up remained for 10mins, conditions were really bad, it was as bad as a foggy morning with all the water spray you would aqua plain if you slammed the anchors on hard.

So what happend is that I saw a single tyre from the left hand side (front)on the 330 bouncing , speeding towards me, I mean fast, this tyre infact came off the rear left of the Golf, and missed me by half a meter. The 330 was lucky, but me even more so, that made the bloody golf move over, right to the hard shoulder, I thought he was going to end up on it's roof, sparks all over the shop.

End result no one hurt, only the pride of the golf driver who was stopping people to over take becouse of weather conditions.

Regards

Moe

Gastro,
If I wanted to stick to the speed limit I would buy a golf, do you really own a scoob, if so man your a posser!

You guys up there in Scotland have some wonderful road, travelled up many of times and yeah sure everyone sticks to 70mph.
Hey the limit is 70mph and I know you can get a way with 80mph.

TopCat,

by your own admission "it was p*ssing down" and "was as bad as a foggy morning" and "you would aqua plain" (sic). Not the best conditions for doing 80mph in a procession in lane three (although i'll give you credit for maintaining a 200 metre (sic) gap).

Thus Gastro does have a very valid point!

One tip for when you are in such a situation is (where possible) for _you_ to move to lane two (rather than following the herd in lane three), which will both increase your zone of safety and improve your view of the road ahead!

I understand your anger about the lane three hog though - shame that they can't install some kind of camera to catch 'em!

I live near the M3 and use it every week. Leaving a 200 Meter gap is excellent on this road and technically a wee bit more then necessary, as on a large amount of this motorway, you can see straight ahead for as far as the eyes can see and the weather really needs to be bad to go below 70/60.

Who on earth does 70 max at ALL times on the motorway? Come on, there must either be a very sad man out there, on a chronic liar!

I await flaming

G Man,

Is that Gary with the silver monster at the meet on Sunday?

Mr footlong
I can't agree with you more, it looks like maybe there are more wanna a be's than we think.

Hey guys it was not me who lost the wheel right! one thing I notice on the bbs some people get side tracked or what.

My style of driving needs a safe car i.e. good brakes, tyres, speed to pull out of trouble safely hence the scoob.

I need a car for go not just show, most of you know what I'm talking about.

The scoob drivers today are not just born again boy racers who crawl at the speed limits set that I know the majority disagree with.(motorways)Germany really have a speed problem don't they.

Boomer: AWD any weather meaning safer than the other ***** that will without miss aqua plain when braking. I did say if you hit the anchors hard, would you hit the anchors hard with surface water?

Gastro:
If the far right hand lane i.e fast lane / over taking lane is new to you, than you give me the impression that you drive like the golf driver that I have described above. Yeah right I know we all love those kind a drivers.

Er, i stand to be corrected, but AWD means that all WHEELS and being DRIVEN - nothing to do with braking!! Sure there is better stability when driving, and engine braking is distributed across all four wheels, but BRAKING is very much the same in an AWD versus a two-wheel drive car.

I'd rather NOT have to hit the anchors hard in standing water - ideally i would have left sufficient gap (in lanes one, two or three) to slow down gracefully. Preferably at less that 80mph!!!

Yours with butter not melting in his mouth!

TopCat.... now-now !
I take your point - we all do 80 and use the overtaking lane to overtake people doing 80. My point was that it didnt seem like the most sensible scenario to be doing that speed etc.
With regards to Scotland - your right there are fantastic roads - the joy of driving isnt always about outright speed/breaking the speed limit *is it* ?? What about keeping a steady 60 on a winding country road.....I'd argue that to be far more fun than living dangerously at 80 in poor driving conditions in a convoy ?? [begging for an accident/to be pulled over by the filth]...........................
Like you say - we all hate that sort of person..................
Chill.

I know you're a safe driver...at least you don't cut corners on country lanes in front of oncoming traffic!

G Man

This post was to share an incident I could of been involved in, with fellow scoob drivers the objective is not to rub each other up the wrong way.

Saying that, Gastro I am gald you admit to breaking the speed limit also as this whole thing got side tracked on that issue.

take care all of you and watch out for those even who are within the speed limit with wheels which come flying off. I am so glad I was not in the crawling lane(left lane) doing 70mph or I would not be telling the tale today, & peace

"80mph 200 meters behind"

That sounds perfectly acceptable in wet weather, I wouldn't do it in Fog but hey. I reckon I can stop my car from 80mph in 200 metres with aquaplaning under braking (have done it on race tracks enough). So why make a big deal ? sure leaving a big gap won't cover every eventuality but,

This (IMHO) is far less dangerous than the millions (and if I'm honest have to include myself sometimes) who sit at 70-80 in good weather 20 metres away from the car in front .. reckon you could stop a car from 60 ? 50 ? 40 ? in 20 metres in good conditions ?

Thought not so why crucify Top Cat ? I think you'd all be better turning the finger towards yourselves first ... but you're all Saints of course yes ?

(ps I'm sure I read somewhere that there are *less* fatal accidents in bad weather, not sure if this is correct though)

Moe,

You got home in one piece, and so did the car!! That's good!!

It's a bad meet, when you car has to go to the garage on the back of a flatbed truck!!!

Just hope the meet didn't give you too many ideas for your spending!!!

I love the holier than thou attitude from some people. It's like they don't break any speed limits or laws (like a full de-cat exhaust!!) All to quick to judge, when they haven't been in the same situation.

You're one of the lucky ones, you know what you car can and can't do, and then don't exceed those limits (too often!!)

Me, I've got to re-learn how to drive the car, and build up my confidence again, which took a bit of a battering two months ago!!

Hope hope you enjoyed the meet, and will come to the next (if we find a venue) and hope that it didn't put too much of a downer on the day.

See you down NitoSport
Andy

Unhappy

I saw that golf on the hard shoulder, by the time I passed it the driving conditions were awful.
I was in no rush to get home, plus motorway driving isn't my bag baby and given the conditions I was quite happy to sit in the middle lane at 70mph - the inside lane had so much standing water in the HGV tyre troughs (for want of a better description) I felt it was too dangerous to go there....

I still can't believe the amount of drivers that are obnoxiously ignorant of care needed when driving in these conditions - tailgaters a plenty

TC no doubt you were driving as conditions allowed but how many times did people pull into your 'safety zone'? It does my head in I tell you!

Gimmie a B road any day! grr!

Rant over

Ahh some realistic red blooded scooby drivers! welcome and thanks for your concern.

Oh no problem I'm not going to teach the unteachable if you know what I mean. I am not going to hold anything against anyone who speak their opinion regardless of how much right or wrong they may do. I would like to thank them in fact of making this post quite entertaining.

I think next time we go to a meet name tags are a good idea I am really sorry I only remember Andy Tang as I have met him 3 times now (great guy) alright fat head...

I was really impressed with the attitude and warmth of other scoob driver, who made an effort to come over intro's etc, my first meet and certainly not the last.

I hope to meet you all again soon, somewhere dryer, somewhere more hospitable, somewhere not to far.

Andy I got the job in Chertsey so it looks like we could hook up for a bevy on a Friday sometime.
