Hi there,

I'm fairly sure there's something not quite right with the gearbox, but need a bit of help diagnosing it? its a 96 WRX

The gearstick itself seems to be really slack, like it just flops around and rattles when i'm cruising at certain speeds (i've heard that this can be due to a missing spring). There's no problems with the gears themselves (no crunching etc), but I have to be very precise when putting the gears in? In my last impreza to select 3rd I could roughly put it in a place near 3rd and it would find its way in, but in this one I have to put it in exactly the right place to get it to go in, otherwise it wont go in at all?

Can anyone give me a rough idea of what's wrong just by that description?

Start with the spring might be hanging but doubt it, also check all the number 5s check they not worn or loose.
The number 18 is where the spring should be attached to
