Boost gauge...is this right?
Hi, I've just fitted a boost gauge and I'm not sure if it's working correctly. When you start the car it takes a couple of seconds to show the vacume reading, and when you turn the car off it slowly returns to 0 from the vacume, is this normal? I thought the response would be quicker? How much throttle to you have to have to get a boost reading. The car feels as if it is boosting but the gauge is showing 0 ish a lot of the time. When you go full throttle it seems to be ok though? I'm not sure if the gauge is working correctly?

The gauge should show a minus when your on tickover, and return to 0 when you switch the engine off.Regarding getting a boost reading ,this will only happen when the car is under load. If you rev the engine while stationary you will only see the needle move a little bit as it is vacume pressure.Try taking your car out for a run and take it up a hill and put you foot down ,you should see the gauge working hitting 0.7 - 1,1bar depending on what model & year of car you have . Gauge sounds like its working fine, where did you plumb the gauge too?.

Gauge is T into an existing pipe connected to the inlet manifild. Start car and gauge slowly goes to good vacume reading. Drive car and gauge seems to work ok on vacume. Drive car hard and get good boost reading but gauge slowly climbs. Had a gauge before but a long time ago and that seemed instant response...this seems damped...slow to respond? Turn car off and gauge slowly climbs from vacume to 0. I would have thought gauge should be fast to respond....seems delayed? Car feels to be pulling hard on part throttle but not showing as boosting. Gauge just doesnt seem to follow the feel of the car, as far as boost is concerned?

The guage appears to be piped as it has a tube that is connected to the inlet, unless the conversion is in the unit? It's a dial gauge. Needs power to work as it is smoked so needs a back light so you can see the display.

Sorry Vince, It's just cheap gauge syndrome
My Spec R gauges were erratic, giving false and slow readings. (Same price band as yours)
Changed to Defi's and prob solved...
Maybe look at some £60 steppers?
PS Yours sounds like a manual gauge
