Default STi Blobeye Servicing

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me where the best place to get my car serviced in or around Cardiff is please?

The mileage is currently 37,500 so I dont think it needs a full service, just one of those 6000 mile ones.

Also, a rough approximation of price?

Cheers!!!

You don't go by the mileage if it's less than it should be for the age, so your either at a stage where the car is requiring the 50 or 60k service, unless you want to risk things like the cambelt snapping? (hence why it's age over mileage)

depends when it was last serviced??? your service book should tell you that and also check the back and it will tell you exactly what needs doing.>>> subaru dealers aint that dear too be honest and least you get stamp and genuine parts...especialy yours being low mileage i would thought that best way too preserve the value.im on 56 k and mines had genuine dealer stamp from new.goodhttp://www.carpages.co.uk/cardiff/subaru-dealers.asp
tht site gives list of subaru dealers near too you

I personally would not take your car to the subaru main stealers in cardiff. They will charge you a fortune for a main service and cambelt (as i have learned in the past )
Once upon a time i took most of the service parts with me i.e cambelt, engine oil, gear oil, all filters etc and they still charged me way over 800 quid. They also charged me for a cambelt replacement cover which they said they could not remove without breaking due to worn bolts.

I am sorry to say that there is no one i'd really trust in Cardiff to do a main service or work on my car. There really is a great business opportunity here in S.Wales for someone in the know.
My last main service was by Litchfield Imports which was about 1 hour 20mins from Cardiff.
A bit nearer just off th M4 in Tewksbury is Powerstation which is 1 hour dead.

and as Tony has said above be careful of time scale especially with something like the cambelt. Mine was done at 45K on a 2003 blobeye the next change will be at 90K.

Litchfield Imports charge about 400 quid for a main service which includes everything bar the cambelt.

Any way, isn't the 6K service just an oil n filter chnge?? if so buy the kit from here.... http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...en=&searchKey=

and then most garges should do the work for for 30 quid, surely?

It's the cambelt, oil and filter change and checks for most other items on the service list for the 5 year/50k service. It is one of the smallest services and you should look at £250-£300 from a specialist, which is where i would take it.

Mine were siezed on the cover, they damaged it when the dealer (who are very good btw) tried to remove it (and trust me they tried, wd40 etc), they even showed me the parts afterwards, and yes, nothing they could have done about it, seems to be quite common.

You could use Ace Motorsport up in Crumlin or Dave Coe in Swansea, Ace is owned by an ex Prodrive WRC mechanic and Dave Coe is also pretty good as well.

I wouldn't let your timing belt go much longer as I recently had mine changed and upon removal it was worn away by the top belt guide clearance being too low.

I don't think the belt had ever been changed by the original Japanese owner or the two previous UK owners. I can't understand why it hadn't been changed in 2009 at least and my car has similar mileage to yours Sharpy.

Better the cost of a timing belt rather than the cost of a rebuild.

Thanks all, for some really useful and knowledgeable advice there!

I'll get everything done I think, I've had the car about 2500 miles now I think, but I don't really know whats been done on previous services. I've got the dealer book here, but I haven't looked at it since I bought the car, so I'll need to check and see whats been done and what hasn't.

I'll keep you informed of the servicing progress, if anyone cares :-D !!

Ok, inquisitiveness got the better of me, and I've checked the servicing for the car.

What I've got is as follows -:

Serviced at 954 miles, work completed was 1000 mile service

Serviced at 17050, work completed was 2 year service

Serviced at 27638, work completed (10,000 mile service)

Serviced at 35310 miles, work completed: "FULL" service.

The cars now at 37k miles like I said before. What bothers me about the 35310 mile service is two things.

1) It only says "Full" service completed, but doesn't list what was done (the other services all say what was actually done).

2) It was done by, would you believe, KWITFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who in their right mind would take a Subaru performance car to bloody Kwikfit!!!!!!!!!!

I guess my question is -: Is there any way of finding out what they actually did, and would you trust the work done?

Take it to Pat Jerome Car Care on Lavernock Road in Penarth, they've done a few oil changes for me, he's got a nice Legacy there himself.

Order the bits online and take them there, good prices too!!
