Should I import my 2009 WRX saloon from the USA?
I'm currently based in the USA with a 2009 WRX saloon. Pretty good car, with 265 bhp.
My dilemma is that I'm due to return to the UK in a couple of months and am wondering what to do with the car. I could ship it back and get it registered in the UK at a cost of about 3 grand. Then so long as I keep it for at least 12 months I won't need to pay any duty on it.
My question is what's it likely to fetch on the UK market compared to a standard WRX / STi if I ultimately sell it? Plus points are that it'd be unique as the saloon version, but against that it's left hand drive. Anyone got any thoughts / experience?

It would be unique, but being lhd is a bit of a letdown. I drove a lhd car ages ago in the uk and totally hated it,mainly because it made overtaking that wee bit more difficult, and changin gear with ma right hand was not as smooth. I suppose it could be converted to a rhd with very little hassle, in all honesty, if it was me id sell it over in the us of a and buy one when you get back.

Mate, get it over to the UK. I buy lhd Subarus, especially on UK plates. I'm based in Italy so it could interest me or others to sell. Give me details on ginofelicetti@tin.it and I'll let you know, please send pics and price you are looking for. Cheers Gino

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree about LHD - once used a left-hooker in the UK for a bit and it's fine in cities, in fact quite convenient as when you park you step right out onto the pavement. But for overtaking not great.
The 3k cost is apparently for everything - the RORO part is only about 900 quid. The rest for mods (eg rear fog light), and registration, etc.
Probably is best to sell it here in the US, as there'd also be hassle with finding specialist insurance and so on.
