Default Need Help to Id "555" engine

Hi,I have a complete engine from a 97 LTD 2 Door WRX that I need to id,the car belonged to a friend of mine and he changed the engine due to it starting to rattle and then sold the car,I have the engine and headers on a pallet untouched and although it rattled as the revs rise, on tickover it was inaudible,he told me the heads are STI,how do I id what I have here without stripping it,I remember him saying it had about 320bhp and it had a ltd edition plaque by the gear lever is this a 555 ?Sorry for being vague as although I am a big Scooby fan I have never owned one,I need to sell it as its in the way.

Thanks for your time

I guess you mean the WRX V-Limited Type R.

WRX engine of the day in a Retna bodyshell with (strangely) a lot of luxury items. Different diff and quicker steering rack. 1000 made IIRC.

If the engine is untouched then it's the same as any other wrx engine of that year.
The engine would also be a phase 1.5 unit, recognisable by the coil pack in the centre of the inlet manifold. These cars were mapped for 280ps power output (276bhp) so unless it has an aftermarket ecu and a fair few mods it won't be running 320bhp.
The ecu controls the power output of the engine and these ones require a minimum of 97ron fuel to run correctly

I have a 97 STi Type R 555 and it has no special plaque in the interior, Only thing I have is a small badge on the boot lid!!!

The car you on about sounds like a V-limted(plaque near gearstick), But pretty sure v-limited editions only come in blue, So what colour was the car??? and did it have a roof vent???

if its a 97 STi engine it would have the red inlet manifold (same as std but painted!!)
however the heads would be "under bucket" shim type and they are useful..........
