Default Noise from gearbox??..

Hi everyone...

right so recently i had a few bits and bobs added to my classic scooby, including a short shifter for my gearstick.
Now when i picked up the car i thought i could hear like a scraping sound as i rolled along, which i put down to my discs being put on the wrong sides after refurbing my calipers (yes i know i know!!ha).
Anyway last night i worked out that the sound only happens when in gear, in neutral rolling there is nothing... soon as i try to engage a gear - i hear the same scraping noise!!!!!

Anyone got any ideas or had the same thing?????....

its very common for the gearbox to wear, short shifter probaly doesnt help
take your short shift off and see if it still does it....

im sorry but i have limited knowledge on the diff, i understand its job to a certain degree yes, but if that was on its way out could that cause the scrapey whiney noise when i try to engage a gear????

and i presume if it is the diff or gearbox, these noises would still be heard with the usual factory fitted gear stick right?????
cant just be the way the short shifter is fitted or anything i take it????....

LOL!!!
