What to do? Its frying my head!!!!
Ok,
As ive been on SN for a while, and read the countless posts with great advice offered by most of you, I feel I need to put this here.
As you can see, I'm currently in a my99 uk turbo, which is more or less standard apart from the wheels, exhaust etc.
Ive had many plans that have fallen by the wayside mostly due to lack of available funding. However, I'm now dead set on getting her some new bits. Im going to ask for your opinions, as It does help, and I do appreciate it!
Option 1:
Coilovers, new exhaust, paint correction and dent removal, brake upgrade, remap, new TMIC, bolt in cage, front and rear strut brace, carbon door cards and an interior re-trim. Maybe a few other LITTLE bits and pieces.
Option 2:
Full 2.1 forged stroker engine with upgraded turbo and ancills, running at 400 bhp, with everything else on hold.
Now, the dilema I have is that over the next few months, I could put past some of my measly army wages into the kitty, so if option 1 gets it, bit by bit each month. If option 2 gets it, I lose the car for a while and possibly pay out more over the months.
I have already emailed the 'main places' like API,RCM,Scooby Projects, Scooby Clinic and Scoobyworld, but all your advice is great.
Hope to get the decision made soon!
Thanks in advance for the help,
Kris

in your place, i did the following:
upgraded my brakes, fmic, new turbo (VF34), transmission from new age STI, new filter, exhaust and remap. This will give you the power you seek and i can guarantee that you will think you have a new scooby in your hands!
Then later on, as you will get used to the extra power, change the internals, the injectors and the turbo and you will have your 400bhp with no rush and safely.
Between the 2, you will find some cash for minor changes like strut bars and interior improvement

If those two options are the only cards on the table, then option 1 takes it. However, I would ask some questions, relating to the use you're going to put it to. In particular is this a roadcar or a track toy, or somewhere between the two?
I refer in particular to the bolt-in roll cage and the carbon door trims. If you're short of cash, the carbon trims seem to be largely cosmetic (albeit with a bit of weight reduction). Ditto the re-trim is something you can do as and when. In addition, if this is a road car, there is no need at all for the roll cage, you will be better/safer without it. If you don't pay for and fit one, that's money you could spend on a new turbo now, ahead of the remap, for example.
If you're building a track car, then I can see the rationale behind the cage, but, if that's the way you're going, why the need for the re-trim when you could just strip it out?
If you can give some more info on the path you want to take with the car, it'll be easier to give you specific advice.

Splitpin, again, legend!
Ok, It would be primaraly a road car, with the possibility of occasional track runs (maybe) I could live without the roll cage, carbon door cards, just a bit of both. To be honest, I'd like to keep it subtle, but have it really, really smart. And with more grunt to go, the ONLY downside is the cost. As I said before, my wages barely cover what I need to do to her, let alone what i want to do.
If I can get the parts to give me more power without wrecking the engine, but have it looking nicer, then I would be onto a winner.
The original engine has now covered 109000 miles, and still runs 99.9% good. Thats where my dilema lies beneath the bonnet.
Many thanks mate.

Option one
Leave the cage and door cards out for the time being
On a budget -
My tweaked option I list
Coilovers BC - BR
Rear 22mm ARB
Front and rear drop links
brake upgrade - Ian Godney 335mm refurbed subaru 4 pots (need 17in wheels)
New exhaust - Decat
New TMIC - Sti8 ?
Green Air Filter
440 injectors
VF28 Turbo (cheaper than VF34) about 200ish
Walbro 225 fuel pump
Remap for about 300-310hp ish.
(You probably might get a fair bit more out of it - but it becomes a bit more hit and miss with your current internals and also your gearbox after this)
Interior re-trim
paint correction and dent removal,

Personally I would do something similar to option 1:
Option 1:
Coilovers, new exhaust, paint correction and dent removal,
brake upgrade, remap, new TMIC,bolt in cage, front and rear strut brace,
carbon door cards and an interior re-trim ARB's, FPR, Maybe a few other LITTLE bits and pieces.
I'd leave the cage out and re trim but thats just a personal preference.
Brakes, suspension, a few ne wngine components and a re-map will transform the car into a pretty useful tool.

Thanks to everyone so far for the tips and advice.
Next then, Im going to ask for some sources and prices for these items.
440cc injectors
VF28/VF34 Turbo
Walbro 225 fuel pump
Coilovers BC - BR
Rear 22mm ARB
Front and rear drop links
TMIC
Remap
New/Refurb Transmission
The exhaust, I have a good idea what im after, brakes wise, still not sure yet. Its on 17's that I bought from here last year. Is there anything else i've missed? If so, let me know, thanks again,
Kris

No probs
Think hard about what you want to do long term with the car.
If you eventually want bigger and bigger power. Perhaps leave the power upgrade and eventualy get mods that will support bigger power. Such as say for example a Hybrid Front Mount Intercooler from Harvey. or say 550 or 740 injectors.
I would scan the for sale section like a hawk

Steve, I scan almost every section regularly, looking for parts, but most of the time, when I find them, I cant get the cash!
I might go down the route of most of the parts you suggested, but go for bigger injectors and intercooler, would still prefer a Top mount though. Im going to have a word with my local garage tomorrow see what I can 'sort' with him, there good, and specialise in performance cars.
Fingers crossed, and let the hunt begin!!!

Sti blobeye (8) intercooler is good ...but eventually has its limitations.
(there are many ways to skin a cat - Andy Forrest runs big power on top mounts)
(read intercooler thread in pool of knowledge)
Front mount is overkill often at 300hp ish
Dont go too big on injectors as they may struggle low down if the other mods are not up to it.
Best thing to do is to spec out the part list - such as say you above have a realistic figure say 300hp. Amass them all slowly but surely - put them all on in one hit and get it mapped all in one hit.

Many thanks again for all the advice, and it looks like this so far:
VF34 turbo (second hand)
440 Yellow injectors (new)
TMIC (new)
Tein coilovers (second hand)
ARBs and Drop links (new)
Walbro pump (new)
Exhaust system (second hand?)
Newage transmission (second hand)
New panel filter
Remap
I think thats my realistic option, so fingers crossed by christmas i'll be running (hopefully) between 300-325 bhp.
Forgot to add before, if you or anyone you know will or is getting rid of ANY of these parts, can you either let me know via here or PM me please. All help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks again

While you're at it add some caster adjustable top mounts to the BCs - about £50 and lets you dial in some 'anti-lift', reduces the power understeer a treat and is cheaper than a whitelines/perrins anti-lift kits.
If budgets tight go with steel drop links, instead of alloy. Marginally less stiff, but about half the price.
Green filter might be unnecessary, I do run one, but tests here have shown theres very little difference.
See if you can get braided brake lines and an ebay cheapy quick shift all helps driver feel.

my 99 runs 300 mods are full decat, td05 16g turbo, fpr, 255 fuel pump, apexi ecu, exedy racing clutch (standard went very soon after upgrading power!) full jgm remap! standard airbox with hks filter, standard top mount!
the difference is so great from 214 to 300 you wouldnt believe it!
would be much cheaper than going all out for 400bhp and you will probably be very surprised!
