Just counting down the days 'til Saturday when I get the new machine MY99 standard spec. Starting to smile already but just a bit worried by all the posts about thefts. I suppose it must be time to get the garage alarmed. The car has the sigma cat1 fitted but what steering wheel / gear locks do people recommend and are they really worth fitting?

Get a disklock for the steering wheel

Security, just stay paranoid as much as you can without letting it ruin your fun.

Imagine how many of these cars are on the road, then compare with number of posts you refer to.

Did you know people with valuable antiques/paintings and nice houses are burgled/tied/beaten up on an almost weekly basis? Similarly, honest/old people who are forced by circumstances to live in crap areas.

We're not so threatened really.

Enjoy, before we're all forced to drive Smarts or Kas and Suzuki Wagon Ar$e type cars.

In addition to a cat. 1 alarm, I use the Autolock 2000, which covers half the wheel.It can be a bit awkward, but a good visual deterent, and worth the hassle if it delays/stops the scum.

You can't do too much, whatever you choose.

 

Barrier Deadlock is a good bet. Locks the gearbox in reverse.

 

I use a Stoplock Airbag on my 306GTI-6 but, will be transferring it to my MY99 Scooby I'm picking up on saturday too!!!! Can't flipping wait!!!!!

 

Picked up the new car today Decided to buy a disklock as well. When the dealer asked if I was going to miss the old Escort I was sure it must have been a rhetorical question. Surely no one needs to ask that!

I hope the depreciation isn't as bad as the Escort. I had a 1.8si from new, and the trade in was about 4k book price. 8.5k off in just under 4 years.

Hopefully got a good deal on the Scoob. 15.5k for MY99 with 36k on the clock and full history.

All versions of the Stoplock are useless cr@p!
(Except for 'Pro' - Whatever that means!)

Only THATCHAM approved devices, as above, should be used - Not a Stoplock!
They're very cheap and very easy to break open! Have you seen the pathetic black metal spring clip that holds it shut?

Incidentally - The Autolock 2000 is EXACTLY the same as the Halfords High security steering wheel lock. (around £59.99)
Check Halfords first for the best deal!
