Advice for new subaru purchaser please...
Hi people I've just registered and dont own a Subaru (yet) so bare with me im a noob
So... I am currently driving a 98 vw golf mk4 gti (150bhp) and have been for the last 3 years. I am approaching my birthday and have always wanted to own a subaru impreza and promised myself i'm getting one on my 25th birthday.
I am looking for a 01/02 Impreza but I'm unsure of the different specs so a wee bit of advice would be greatly appreciated. I've seen this one of the web http://www.autoweb.co.uk/WSCarDetails.asp?cdID=9058725 but again unsure of the spec and value for money? My budget is pretty tight also at around 5K and ideally am after one with less than 70k on the clock.
Any help would be
Cheers
Chris

Welcome
Ok your in the area for a WRX, at that age they will be 215bhp, if you can find one with the PPP (prodrive performance pack) fitted, all the better (245bhp).
You need to look at service history, its a bit of a must really for the sort of mileage car your after, and check out www.pistonheads.co.uk as they will give you a better look at cars in your price range, and dont pay over the odds, sometimes its best to buy a totally standard car and work up from that

The sort of thing you should look at in your price range
If your lucky you may get a 2003 model (2001/02 cars are known as bug eye, 2003-2005 are blob eye, plus they upped the power slightly to 223bhp)
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1841931.htm
this next one is a little drive up the road from you
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1847893.htm
This is an STI, more bhp for your £ but you would need to see if she had fsh (and its the one I would put top of the list as they have stronger components over the wrx and uprated items like bigger brakes)
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1864069.htm
Up your way again
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1824998.htm
Rare as rocking horse poo this one, they only made the STI wagons in the new shape till 2002 then they stopped check to see who mapped it, if its not mapped then walk away, jdm cars are mapped for 100 ron fuel in japan, decatting etc over here without a map will kill the engine
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1809484.htm
There are more on there but have a look, it could take some time, dont just buy the first one you see, lots of things can go wrong with these cars, normally its expensive to fix

Not seen a bugeye on original suspension (car on stilts) for a while like the one in the OP
I've got a WRX (non-sti) and it has cost me a fair bit to make it a little better....I should have bought an STi LOL
Which is why I would consider that WR Blue Prodrive style STi on pistonheads. They look nice and more importantly the engine, drivetrain and brakes are pretty bulletproof (well almost) and for this age of car you need a bit of robustness
