Im looking to buy my next impreza after just selling my turbo 2000,i have my eyes on a nice silver 2001 bugeye, just wondered if anyone knows how i can tell if it is a genuine STI and not `dressed up` into one with interior/badges even turbo etc.As on the register it only comes up as a impreza wrx? thanks in advance
A very simple way is to check if it has the brembo brake calipers or not, people quite often overlook them. It should also have a 6 speed box so that's another easy one.
ok thanks for that,i will try and get the vin number,i didnt realise STI`s were only 6 speed? is that right, this one im looking at is a 5 speed?
That's a dead giveaway, when we were looking for my sisters classic I would say 80% of the cars advertised as STI's were really WRX's It's a minefield if you don't know what to look for but at least you have a few pointers now
6 speed box, intercooler water spray, sti on the clocks, sti embossed on gear surround, sti on blue seats, blue door cards, sti on steering wheel( maybe not on bugeye...might still just say momo) rev beeper, intercooler water bottle in boot, right hand side boot open behind boot trim, brembo calipers (4 pot front 2 pot rears) sti fog covers on blobs, bugeyes have a type of headlight only found on sti model (looks different to wrx and prodrive ones looks different again)
the most important thing i would want to look at is the log book, you can change as many items to sti you want but if the log book says wrx you'll know its not genuine

Thats rubbish, lots of cars are wrong on the log book. Lots of jdm cars, wrx and sti`s are on v5 as just impreza or gl.

Also a few 100,000 of the V5 went missing from the DVLA and are now appearing on the street, so be careful.
Use the "Vehicle Search" facility on the link below if you have the reg. It's a real bonus
dont listen to the rear wiper , sti on the logbook crap . mine had no rear wiper , on log book said subaru ,no wrx,no sti. registered new by litchfields
