Default Madness - STI vs WRX

Hi all,

I've just done a quote for a 55 plate WRX and a WRX 'STI' 55 plate.

And they are both the same!!!

I'm turning 25 in a few months and thought I would get a quote with my current wrx and a quote with the car I want next.

Maybe that's the norm?

I'll happily take the extra horses for no extra insurance cost.

Althought I'm a bit older than you at 34, I had a similar experience when I checked to find out how much my insurance would be, when I decided I was buying a scoob...

Turns out that it was £585 for a WRX STi, or £532 for a WRX STi PPP, which has more power!

Odd, but that was the deal!

I think it's brilliant.

Maybe it's simply insurance companies not knowing performance cars as well as they should.

Happy days.

Could be that!

In my case, once I selected the PPP version, a different company quoted and they wouldn't quote on the normal STi, and they quoted cheaper.

I didn't get the PPP in the end anyway, just a standard STi, so I got stung a bit by the insurance lol!

Its all to do with stats. If in the last month a load of WRX's have been written off then statistically they are a greater risk. If a load of STI's have been stolen then they are the greater risk at the time.

I dont see how opportunists could nick one though, surely the car is alarmed and immobilised pretty heavily... Easier to go and nick the ford escort in the next street, surely?

It isn't so easy for people to joyride cars these days. As once its stolen and the Police know, it will flag up on their automatic registration reader as being stolen.

It may be stolen to break down for parts, but theives typically want to make a quick buck and that would take too long for most of them.

i get what your saying, there is 2 problems though one is the police will struggle to catch it because they have to look after their vehicles and the thieving scum don't give a **** and as for the ANPR all they have to do to get round that is have a cloned set of plates made up, with those the ANPR wouldn't be worth its weight in scrap.

Fair points mate.

I have no idea how easy it is to nick a scooby or any other car for that matter.

But I'm guessing the average joyrider wouldn't be able to pinch an Impreza WRX/STI as they wouldn't have the know how.

If they are easy to take, I would rather not know............

Very true. That's why I always take my keys to bed with me.

I'm amazed how many people still leave their keys close to their letter boxes.
