I always used 5 ltrs of Millers 10w/60 oil every 3500miles & always had another litre bottle for topping up in between services.
always bought my oil from either Opie oils or Import Car Parts.

http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...n=y&searchKey=
They also sell service kits at good prices & next day delivery.

& as for a filter i ran with the K&N panel filter, but i think theyre all much the same tbh.
Also changed to the plugs to the NGK 7b plugs before having her mapped to 340bhp 340 lbft

Got a green pannelo filter in mine buddy, opie do an oil and filter set. I have silkolene r 10w-50 and an afi oil filter.
It's a doddle to do.
Here's a little oil change guide......
Undo the oil filler cap and pull the dipstick out.
undo the oil filter (it's going to rain oil on you if you're not carefull here!!)
Undo the sump bolt.
When you drain the oil, make sure you prefill the new filter (apply a very light film of oil to the new filters rubber seal.)
Do up the sump bolt (you need a new crush washer)
Fit the new oil filter, do it up as tight as you can by hand ONLY!
Fill her up with oil.
Then pull the crank sensor plug off.
Then crank the car untill the oil light goes off.
Then refit the sensor plug and start her up. (might take three or four starts for the engine light to go off)

shell helix plus 10-40w is fine. pay around £20 for 5 litres, (maybe slightly more, but not much)
i have a simota panel filter and it has been great over the last 30k, a quick blast with the air jet each service and its back to new.
nothing wrong with "blueprint" filters either, although a genuine subaru one is only about £12
drop rick RS74 a pm. he does a lot of smacs members cars. i am sure you know him rob. he will tell you what he uses on a regular basis and he has NO comebacks whatsoever
