Question

All

Having just responded to Fiasco's polishing thread ... It jogged my memory.

At my local car wash company they told me of this alloy wheel cleaning putty.

Put it all over the wheels, and it's ment to take off all the caked on brake dust and discoloured patches.

Anyone know ...

a) Does it exist?
b) Is it any good?
c) Where can I get it from?

Wash your wheels every week then apply Autoglym Super Resin polish every month or two, then you won't need any

I find that regular cleaning and polishing preserves the alloys, then the brake dust doesn't eat in

Yorkie

Spot on m8! Always wash wheels and car every week and always but always wax your alloys. Great for gloss as well as protection.

Mark

The points raised above seem fair enough, but what if someone (not me you understand ) has allowed brake dust to build up to the stage where there are small patches which are (almost) impossible to remove by hand, using a soft cloth, soap and water.

What then?

Obviously, once or if the wheels are completely clean again, following Yorkies/yours advice above seems the way to go, but any advice for those of us who need bring our wheels back from the dead?

Thanks

Rich

Thx for the question. All thats needed is some time and a little elbow grease and a magic clay bar.

Ideally you'll want the wheels off the car and clean them first with a special solution that I can knock up for you. You clean the wheels and then rinse leaving wet. You then clay the wheels and this will reove the solidified brake dust and also reove all the small black speckles, leaving the surface like a baby's proverbial. You now wash the wheels yet again and then rinse and dry. You now wax the wheels. Allow around 1.5 hrs to do all wheels as this way you can do inside of the rims as well as the outside. The wax to go for would be the Shield Wax with Teflon as this comes complete with clay and applicator. There is enuff clay to do around 7 cars so it will your wheels and also your paintwork (great for bug splatter removal on paintwork and glass) plus you can use the wax on your car as well as the wheels. You'll need to wax around once per month and do the wheels at the same time..if standard wheels dead easy. There is enuff wax for 45 complete applications.

Hope this suffices.
