Question Anybody know anything about this P1?

As above reg is P15 UBR.

It was bought originally by a guy called Phil Hulse who used to be a member on here, but that was almost 10 years ago. I've pm'd him but i doubt he'll get it or even has the same email address.

I've joined the P1WOC but as yet am not allowed to post.

Just after history really as i'm considering buying it a few weeks after selling up and walking away from Subaru

Also anybody that wants to add bits of advice regards to buying a p1 feel free to post.

They have a habit of going bang after a certain mileage due to the ECU containing a map not wholly suitable for UK fuel. They did try to get around this by putting broquet fuel pellets in the tank but this wasn't entirely succesful. Ensure it's had a rebuild or budget for it. Aside from that it's probably Subaru's finest hour in their production history.

Thanks for that Einstein RA, i have thought about the cost of a rebuild and the only reason i'm considering this is because IMO it is the best car Subaru have made like you said. I'm waiting for more info to come back to me like the build number and more pictures of the engine bay, service history etc. The car itself is being sold by a garage that have taken it in part exchange and haven't really advertised it well.

They are great cars, ask anyone who has owned one and they will wax lyrically about them. Buying from a garage who aren't clued up about them could be a curse or a blessing. I've know people who have worked in garages to take out Imprezas (mainly STIs) and blow them as they've not been mapped for UK fuel. On the other hand you could bag a bargain if it's a mint example.

The blessing and the bargain is what i'm hoping for, £6k and it looks immaculate. Its currently being sold by a repossession company which is why there is little to go on.

I'm thinking £6k is a good price by the price of others

That is a great price ..take it, even factoring a rebuild its still a bargain.

I had mine since 2002 , have no plans of selling ever(and I change cars quite alots)
my other ride is the E90 M3(as my P1 is in Prosport for a 2.35 conversion), but I wish I was in the P1
so what does that tell you about the P1 !!!

get it ...and mod its ,they have so much character

Cheers Bighead, after posting up on P1WOC there is a good reason for it being so cheap I'll look for a few others.

I was looking at 335d's until recently, after finding out i'm getting a company car i'm going to end up straight back into a subaru and always loved the P1's. Fancy something fun and these fit the bill £8k ish is my budget although it's not set in stone.

Well not really, its probably the best mass produced classic for the UK market, the 22B was better, and watch out for dodgy MAF sensors and induction kits (and decats), if its not been remapped then it will have a tendancy to go pop

Not buying it now as it's very tatty inside has a simtek ecu and apparently was an unfinished project so could have all sorts of issues.

One i've found now has had all belts tensioners etc just done plus new subaru clutch, oils including gearbox and diff oil changed. Would it be worth getting a new maff just in case regardless wether it needs one or not Tony? and also getting it remapped not for more power but just for piece of mind that it's been done right?

Maf's are cheap at around 100 quid so yes its worth changing, especially if its 10 years old!
Then remap with your favourite fuel, add something like a phormula ks3 and your laughing

www.phormula.co.uk
Its a knock detection device, visible and audiable so you know when it goes off, stops you detting your engine to bits.

There was a group buy on them last year, had mine hard wired in, got a mate who is an auto electrician to do that, cost me 20 quid, apart from that its easy to do but if you dont want it hard wired in (they recommend using an auto electrician otherwise you may blow the unit up) otherwise you have to plug in to the lighter socket, the bosch sensor is easy to fit and then you just put the sticky velcro pad where you want and away you go, just do some minor settings as shown on their website for setting up the knock alarm, easy
