MOT laws
What are the implications of not having an MOT. I have just checked my certificate and it expired on the 5th!
I've been so busy with work it slipped my mind, only remembered as my tax is due end of the month.
The earliest i will be able to book it in is monday I would imagine.
If i got stopped would I be in a lot of trouble even if I have it booked in? I have never run over on an MOT before

I did exactly the same, my MOT run out on the 4th and i realise like 3 days ago. I just took it to an MOT centre and they dobe it straight away.
As for laws i don't know, i had a look and it appears it's straight up illigal unless driving to the MOT centre but i'm not 100% sure.
Thanks,
Sam

Loads of places do it while you wait i thought.
I was driving around for 2 days after since i found out mine ran out, i was just going to tell the truth. I also had to drive though as i was 110 miles from home and the next day i had arrange to pick some alloys up ha.
Thanks
Sam

Let me clear this up for you.......
1. If you drive your car without a valid MOT it will invalidate your insurance.
2. If you have an accident or you are stopped by police you are liable to face prosecution for MOT non-compliance.(normally a fine and points)
3. The only time you can drive a car without a valid MOT is if you are driving to a test appointment or to a garage to carry out the repairs that are needed for your vehicle to pass the MOT test.
4. unless there having a really bad day, most police officers will not summon's someone who,s MOT ran out a week ago.........

BE CAREFUL!!!!!
Just 1 more pointer to add my friend....
all police cars are now fitted with whats called a ANPR system (automatic number plate recoginition), so if you pass a police car driving down the road - they will know you have no MOT!!! So chances are they will spin round and you will be stopped and reported for driving with no insurance!!!
it is only legal to drive a car without an MOT certificate IF your on your way to a valid MOT test centre AND you have an appointment! Otherwise its a fine and possibly points on your license i do believe!!!
Take care my friend!
Regards
Andy

It is easy done, I now have my MOT date minus one month set as an alarm on my phone and soon my computer. You can get your car MOT'd a month early so if you have a fail you can still use it to get bits to fixit. If it passes you then get a 13 month MOT.

that 1 a myth im afraid...if you book your car in a few days or couple of weeks before a test iand it fails its ilegal to drive unless going for re mot or repairs.gone are the days when you get car mot early incase you need repairs and have some time before the omt due.legislation came out few years ago that stopped it.my mate a tester.i thought the same and was shoicked when he said "no mate it off the road" and i had 2 weeks beofre the original ran out.dont forget test station are now linked direct too vosa and as soon as that fail button pressed your failed.it right about the 13 month tho.you can take car up too 4weeks before i think anit added on from the date

The real and practical implication is that if caught, youll be looking at a £60 non-endorsable fine. Your insurance cant be invalidated, no matter what you have heard, or even if the policy alludes to it. Third party liability cant be avoided by insurers and the ombudsman will force them to settle a loss claim making only a small and appropriate adjustment for the lack of MOT.
Get it done quickly, but dont panic.
BTW - the comment above about failure cancelling a current MOT is rubbish too. The current MOT can only be cancelled by the issue of a PG9: otherwise it remains in force irrespective of other later failures, for the full 12 months. Of course, you can still be prosecuted for C&U offences and if the failure is for something serious, itd be extremely foolish to continue using the vehicle without repairing the fault first.

Your Insurance is valid if the car is roadworthy - doesn't matter if it has an MOT or not!
A car with an MOT can be unroadworthy and therefore not Insured (except for 3rd party) - a car without MOT could be very roadworthy and therefore fully covered!
