Default What would you use forging a 2.5

As title really, interested on peoples thoughts on what items you would purchase if you were to start a rebuild using the best internals you could get. Also the cost involved in just purchasing the parts. For a 2.5 WRX Hawkeye lump......anyone ?

And a clutch, gearbox and rear diff....

I know two people who are killing these without going to forged internals.

Sorry !

At the moment bud just interested in the engine side and what/whose components they would use and those to stay away from which maybe more important-interesting

Think dunx means you'll destroy the clutch, gearbox and rear diff if you get a forged engine and get the power your after, and don't upgrade them.

Totally understand and appreciate that, my question just concerns if you were building the engine what manufacturers you would, wouldn't use and probable costings involved

You are best off speaking to the many engine builders on here to give them a budget or a desired power level and they will spec the engine to suit and let you know how much money to part with to do it.

People like Lateral Performance, RCM, EngineTuner, Scoobyclinic ...

Cool, I'm through there a lot as I have to use the Shell garage there for my V-Power intake! I'll be there on Friday to get a suit from the dry cleaners....as we don't have one of them in Whitby either, lol.

Also....I haven't a clue about the components your after, lol.

Thought this might be a cut n dry answer but clearly it's not. You see a lot of people on here building these engines and I was very curious to know the costings and what where the more popular component manufacturers to use or not !

Look at some of the bigpower projects on here and you will see the variety of components that have been used.

For my own new 600bhp 2.5 Iengine have:
EJ257 block - with darton liners
std sti crank
crower rods from lateral
cosworth pistons
cosworth head gaskets
o ringed sti heads
std cams

but have a look around and you will see no-one with the same spec as mine as people choose their own favourites based on budget, power targets, useage and what their chosen engine builder can get.

I've heard these names on here a few times:

wiseco pistons
crower conrods
manley conrods
cosworth pistons and conrods

RCM 12mm oil pump
RCM 11mm or 14mm head studs

ACL Race main and big end bearings

Standard 2.5l STI crank can handle 550bhp+

As for the pricing, I think most of the above pistons and rods have varients depending on how much power you're after and that effects price.

I'd think long and hard about forging a WRX, you will end up changing just about everything else in the engine bay to get anywhere near the power that would justify doing it.

Not cheap.

Best speak to one of the known engine builders or parts suppliers.

You could also talk to these people. Or talk to a more local engine builder about them.

Set a power level first and then the quality of the necessary components will dictate pricing. A 400 bhp engine is miles and mile scheaper than a 550bhp one for instance.

Some people have spent north of £30k on some of the really big power engines...but you won't get much change from 10k for even a 450+ engine
