Default gutted, think turbo is on the way out....

just got off the phone to my specialist garage i use, they confirmed my frears with regards to the recent bit of smoke on idle, sounds like main seals on turbo going, so its either send it off to get refurb'd or bite the bullet and get the andy forrest hybrid td04 i want. car is a my00 uk turbo. gutted, really skint atm, paid for a big holiday next month, this is the last thing i needed tbh.

Can using a turbo until its totally knacked be detrimental to other parts of the engine?

Plenty of TD04s on Ebay for less than £100.
The hybrid will need a remap and other monies spent to use it, so not the best thing to buy when skint?

I 2nd what the others have said, if you are handy with a set of spanners you can change the turbo yourself as well, it's not that hard and it'll save you a few quid so you can save up for a bigger turbo etc.

edinburgh up in scotland. not handy at all with a spanner, got a mate who is pretty handy with them though built his own mk1 golf gti with a 16v transplant. not sure if i want to be buying a second hand unit off ebay only to find its knackered as well. which is a distinct possibliity.

know just how you feel mate, since december last year my engine went bang then clutch and now turbo, harvey does very good price on td05 but will need suporting mods and remap, probably best to try find a good second hand unit and get fitted if you just want it back on the road asap, any good garage should be able to fit turbo, not really a specialist job, or even give it a go yourself.

Been said before, but get your mate to fit a td04 that you would only have to punt £75-100 on this site. Advertise for it on the wanted section.
Shame it wasnt a month later, as Im taking mine off to put on a vf35 at the end of the month.

I was gonna say you can have the one i have for a small fee if you would collect.
It's one which came off my MY99. It was running perfectly when i swapped it for a VF35. It's done 70k. How does £50 delivered sound?

I also have a TD4 which has only done 30,000 miles.
I am just outside Edinburgh so could bring to you for £100 if you are not too far from Ednburgh.

Steve at SW Motorsport near the Ski Slope is a top guy and could change it over for you rates are very reasonable.

You could get the hybrid at a later date when funds permit.

My car has the hybrid turbo fitted and with mapping etc cost over £1100 and this was with a virtually brand new turbo for Andy to work with and I already had the Prodrive exhaust and up rated intercooler pipes as per the PPP set up.

Let me know if yoyu want it.
