Any ideas Guys and Girls ???

My MY00 STI V has developed a problem .... when starting it puts out more blue smoke than a 7.5 tonne lorry !! It's going in to be taken apart today, I thought it may be one of the cats gone and burning the carbon as the exhaust is blackened.....Then again, my worst suspicion is the turbo oil seal ??

ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS ????

be about 12 years after yours was scrapped then ?

 

What mileage is your car, does it make and funny noises and do you always use Super Unleaded with octane boost??

All Imprezas run rich so the black soot on the exhaust is normal. Blue smoke means it is burning oil which means one of three things :

1)Knackered turbo seal
2)Worn Piston rings
3)Worn valve stems/guides

Either way get it checked quickly.

 

its done 12500 miles, its in today so I should know soon...

 

Probably a stupid question but are you sure the smaoke was blue. Most Imprezas bung out a lot of grey smoke when cold, especially if left standing for a few days. If the smoke clears once the engine has warmed up its probably nothing serious.

Are you sure it is definitely smoke and not just steam??

 

Does it smoke under load as well or just on idle? Also does it smoke on over run?
