You'l need it mapped again, might be an idea to let the mapper splice the old MAF wiring and fit new MAF

No one local to you with a newage, so you could try the maf housing for size?

The MAF housings are completely different, The Newage has a temp sensor incorporated into the casette as well. If this was easy and doable then it would be written up on SN.

I know that Bob Rawle has wired up and mapped a Classic with a New Age MAF sensor and body fitted. I think this was on a 99-00 and one MAF has three wires and the other four from memory so it is clearly possible and as Bob has done this already he would be the man to repeat this for you.

I have done this. You cannot use the original MY99-00 maf housing, the maf output will be insufficient at light throttle and idle. Given the correct maf tube diameter then the maf scaling needs a significant revision, however given that then it works v well and the car will drive the same if not better than if the original was in use. The wiring needs adjusting to suit of course.

best regards

bob

my99 car has 4 wires upto the maf. from what ive seen the newage uses 5 so im assuming the 5th wire is the AIT sensor. is this the only wire to wire up or are they routed differently. i will soon have the newage maf an a pipe to suit but what is the scaling?

Scaling the MAF sensor as you now have a MAF sensor sending information to your ECU from a different diameter tube so this needs to be scaled so the correct fuel is added for the air flow detected by the MAF Sensor.

cheers for the info so basically scaling is to do with the remap? once the snsor is connected an all together the car wont be run but would the car still run if its conected wrong? just so i know if its wired up correctly or not

Scaling is required because of the change in diameter of the MAF housing, all the MAF does is measure airflow. stick the MAF in a 1" diameter tube with say an airflow of 10cm per second and it will tell the ECU a certain value. Stick the MAF in a 12" diameter tube wth the same airflow of 10cm per second and the MAF will tel the ECU exactly the same value...........because the airflow is the same.

Even if in the second case the airflow in the pipe has massivly increased because of the change in diameter.

If you increase the diameter of the MAF housing the result will be underfuelling and running lean. The ECU should be able to cope open loop

It really needs fitting and mapping pertty much together AFAIK.

Shaun

PS Had the RCMS Induction kit fitted and Bob Rawle had to rescale the MAF and (as ever) Bob told me what was going on. I hope for Bob's sake I heve remembered right
