Default worried, noticed some smoke.........

noticed that when my uk turbo 2000 classic is idling its smoking a bit, then a puff when you drive off after idling for a minute or two, but not smoking when driving. no strange noises from engine still smooth as ever and quiet. only done 53k and fsh. hoping just an turbo oil seal or gasket or something?

yeah think its blue not white, doesnt do it on start up or anything jsut ater been driving it and then sit idling for a bit. just checked coolent level and its fine so not losing water. all temps etc have been fine. have a set of ported headers and up pipe to get fitted so turbo will have to come off anyway so could get seals done then?

it's not uncommon for a turbo to start smoking when it's been left idling for a bit. Wouldn't worry unless it starts getting worse.

Sounds like turbo 'seals', as you notice it only occurs when engine is hot and idling. Another way of confirming is to run the car, then stop on an incline (nose up) and the same smoke will 'puff' from the exhaust at 5 to 10 second intervals. Easy enough to cure, just a real pain in the pants to do. Seal repair kits are around 50 - 60squids to buy, but this could depend on your turbo type. Mitsubishi TG repair kits are common, not so the IHI range.

These guys can repair, recondition for you: http://www.turbopacs.com/Turbo-Repairs-_qn_61.html
