Pretty sure subaru turbos are oil lubricated/cooled only. So i'd say no mate. However leaking head gaskets under boost is another posibility you might want to investigate.
my car hardly smokes but get faint white smoke especially in winters an my turbos making a whisteling noise so dont know if on its way out. think if seals go only oil gets through system if this is right

If it's burning oil through the turbo bearing failing, you should notice more of a blue smoke from the exhaust. White smoke would indicate water getting into the combustion chanmber buddy
hmmm im hoping i not got a hg leak. doesnt use up water. the odd top up in expansion tank but hardly. think ive got condensation in the exhaust system. no blue smoke so hopefully good. its coming off soon so will check play
