Default Can this be possible

hello my car is a 1998 sti V4, i took my car into the garage yesterday as bottom end has gone, he has removed the engine and has inspected it and told me my bottom end block is wrx block with all the sti gear,
how can that be true as i thought sti engine only fit into sti and wrx's into wrx's
but he tell me all the engine blocks are all the same its the internals that aer different and count, is this true
so you can fit a wrx bottom end block to the sti with all the sti extras

thankyou for your help.

The pistons etc are all the same size, looks llke yours has had a failure at some time then and its been replaced by a wrx bottom end or they rebuilt it with wrx pistons etc.

i didnt kno you can bolt the wrx bottom end block with the sti equipment, so i take it all the engine blocks are the same its just the internals that are diffrent.
