Default Early WRX/STi spec

Hi all, I have a V2 WRX JDM import and whilst investigating upgraded ARBs found that my car has the STi alloy front arms fitted, they look original but they could have been replaced several yeras ago, the car also has alloy bonnet and bootlids. As these early cars weren't badges as STis (although I understand some had badges under the bonnet) is there anything else that would point to an early STi spec? I'm not too bothered as the differences weren't great on the early cars but it would be nice to know.

No cars have alloy bootlids (or any other panels, theyre just really rubbish/thin steel) - JDM Saloons have alloy bonnets. Calling it a "V2" only ads confusion, because Subaru used an alphabetical naming convention. The WRX STI V2 was a 1996 model year car, which is a C2-Series, so a 'version 3' or a 'version 4', depending on how you look at it.

this thread is identical to one from the other day...

all pre 96 import saloons had alloy lower arms and bonnet, even the wrx. The wagons has steel bonnet and lower arms.
Alloy boot, doors and anything else are myth.
The early stis are all are clearly marked with a plaque under the bonnet showing there build date and number and it is marked sti. Stis are easy to spot as they have the sti grey and black seats (not the red and black or purple and black seats in the wrx).

However my car has black and grey seats, not red/black or purple.

Did the my95 have grey/black seats?

A c would make it a 95/96 Model Year car.

Funny thing about my car is its on a m reg and states 94 on the v5 but it is a my95... gc8c48d

My seats look like that but they only have grey bits on the inside of the bottom and sides. Not a solid grey strip up the bottom and back... howver they are definately grey and black certainly not red

Tony, mine is a 95 model year, GC8 with alloy bonnet, alloy lower arms , AC and Black and Grey seats.

GC8
"No cars have alloy bootlids (or any other panels, theyre just really rubbish/thin steel) - JDM Saloons have alloy bonnets. The above is really confusing, "WRX STI V2" doesn't the V" mean version 2? how can you call it a version 3 or 4??

Mine is a pre facelift car made in 95 and is therefore a version 2 car, versions 3,4,5 and 6 are all facelift models???

Only STI's were versions (2-6), yours is an MY95 WRX
Early cars had a few bits the later ones didnt, they didnt make any standard STI models in 1995 so you can discount it being one

Tony does plenty of winking and frowning. I think he has a twitch.

Im not sure what he means above. There were v2 sti cars in late 95. The v2 sti was the first production sti (v1 were modified off the production line).

If you had an sti you would know it cos they have all have a unique plaque and quite frankly you be silly not to spot it. If someone thinks they have a v1 or v2 sti often they have wrx.

roughly speaking:
v1 = 93-end of 94 (pre facelift)
v2 = end of 94-96 (pre facelift)
v3 = 96on (face lift)
etc etc

V2 STI's are MY96 cars, these are produced (as per all subaru's) between september - august, but its still a 1996 model year car.
Facelift was the MY98 cars, version 3 STI's were not facelift (new interior etc).

tony you are confusing versions with series codes.
a v3 is a D series car in my mind (facelift).
the facelift refers to the new front end which was introduced end of 96 (MY97)

Total rubbish!

I Have a 62k 1995 JDM Waggon WRX SA that has a Alloy bonnet (from the factory as the paint on the bolts is un marked and alloy wishbones The SA was a factory modified WRX STI version before they took up the STI badge and name it had NO plaque and looked totaly standard but had pink paint spots on the Diff ecu and gearbox, also had larger injectors and goes like **** of a shovel never modded just as it came from japan and is 263 bhp as it is standard on the rollers

Also have a 1994 JDM Turbo 2000 WRX Saloon that has steel wishbones

Alloy boot is far from a Myth my old 1995 WRX V-limited had a alloy boot only found out when the dent man came out to get a pin dent out and could not do it! that also had alloy wishbones and bonnet also no door brace bars inside the rear doors or pass front door (just the drivers)

Hmm, it seems that there is loads of confusion . I have always thought of my car as a Version 2 Impreza WRX and I have read nothing to change that!!

Doesn't the verion number relate to when the base car changes i.e.
v1 = 93-end of 94 (pre facelift)
v2 = end of 94-96 (pre facelift)
v3 = 96on (face lift)
etc etc

Rightly or wrongly I have always seen the STi as a tuned variant of a WRX and the early cars have less "additions" than the later cars, as in a version 2 WRX and version 2 STi are not far apart whereas a verion 8 WRX and version 8 STi are streets apart.

Yeh its a funny one that is! Had a Proper WRX SA (what i belive not to be a Sti version) wagon about 5 years ago, no spats, steel wishbones and no lower spoiler did not even have buckets! was manual and baged on the boot as a SA,

The one i have now has alloy wishbones, lower spoiler, spats on the skirts and rear bumper, nasty blue bucket seats and a alloy bonnet, so i recon there are to SA Versions a Sa and a SA STI
