Default carnt belive it....

this is just my luck

had my engine rebiult 3 weeks back now, ran the engine in and took if for the remap this morning, then the worst happened, big bang and the garage was filled with smoke, the conrod **** its self and decided to throw its self threw my block.

so yet again new pistons conrods, but this time new crank and block needed.

carnt belive it,,

it was done at dyno demons in the wirrel,

he did the biuld and the map, so is up to him really to sort it out,
it blew up on the first stage of the map only running 186bhp to sort the boost out, it had full sti internals, so for a conrod to go only doing such small bhp, not sure of the cause, the guy said he thinks it will be a faulty oil pressuse release valve but im not convinced,

he said he has bits there to rebuild it again, but he only has a classic block, and that would mean building mine with a miss mach of parts, which i dont really want..

Dude. Sounds like a shoddy operation to me. Personally, at this stage I'd want to take the car somewhere else for a engineer's report and look to DD footing the bill for an equivalent spec built by another outfit.

They should not be throwing bits together that you did not ask for.

I would have thought any rebuild would use a new age block....... as a starting point why get a classic one?

Maybe give David at Api a call for advice.

as above take the car else where, there have been a few horror stories on here in the past, and by the sounds of it, it gets worse.

I think we've just rebuilt an engine for a guy called Tristan Parsons from up your way. His car blew up on the rollers at Dyno Demons. I think there is a thread not far back about it all.

For an engine to blow like that, there was either something wrong with the con rod or big end bolt - or someone forgot to do something up.

In the many years I've been involved in Motorsport I've never seen a reputable rod fail by itself, it have always been attributable to something else. The main one is the rod bolts. The number of times I've seen people who allegedly know what they are doing torquing up rod bolts with nothing more than a general type torque wrench it's untrue. This tends to lead to over torquing and the bolts being stretch beyond their design, which in-turn leads to catastrophic failure.
Rod bolts should always be torqued to spec using a Rod Bolt Stretch Gauge, which so many so called engine builders seem to lack.
I guess depending on what the agreement was/what parts were supplied by you and what were supplied by Dyno Demons you maybe able to get a full refund as not fit for purpose?? If you do manage to get a refund then best advice would be to speak to one of the reputable builders on here, for example Alan Jeffery, David@API, the boys at Roger Clark Motorsport or Lateral Performance to name a few and go from there.

I note that Tristian took my advice on that thread then

"Before you let them touch it, I REALLY, REALLY suggest you call David at APi mate."

I suggest the OP does the same!
