Question What parts do i need to make an STI

Hi guys, i know there were a few topics on differences between wrx and sti, but what about a normal standard 2.0 non turbo impreza and an sti.

Which parts will i need ( not including engine/gearbox/rear diff/front brakes, ecu with all the wiring and sensors) to make an STI.

sell it and buy an STi that is the cheapest way to do it.Making a car look like something its not is ridiculous and asking to be laughed at IMO.Leave it as it is,the Hawk is a nice looking car in any guise

Complete engine, running gear, gearbox and ancillaries, complete interior, lights, electrics and **** all brains to try it!

I mentioned above, so ( without engine, gearbox, brakes, and ecu, wiring, rear diff) What else is there ?

Either you way out with the fairies or not getting it.

Start with a bare shell, doors and glass and everthing else you would need to go from an RX N/A 2.0 to STi.

If you just mean to look like an sti without the running gear you will need bonnet,rear disc brakes,side skirts,rear wing,rear window spoiler STi alloys,STi interior ,borla headers (to help bring out the burble) and a decent backbox and a wad of cash for your hike in insurance

it will cost three times as much on the insurance due to all the modifications.

yes the instrument panel is different as it the majority of the dash/centre console

guys i have a feeling he is looking more at the visuals then the actual engine side of things.

to the OP you will need the front and rear bumpers, rear spoiler, rear lights, possible fronts not sure if they are different, full interior (front and rear seats, front and rear door cards, sure the dash clocks are different to), sti wheels, also as far as know the front arches are different to the sti arches are wider. to finish it off you could probably get a set of sti suspension cheap enough maybe a few hundred quid to make sure it sits like an sti. depending on how far you want to go then even the sti back box to finish it off.

sure there will be some smaller bits and bobs i have forgot but that is the most of it.

if it were me and as said already sell the wrx and by an sti, much better all round car, by the time you have bought all the parts i am sure there would not be too much difference in the overall cost between the two and for what extra the sti may cost would see a much better return with having the engine, gearbox, brembo with future tuning potential

Is it a simple job of taking the clocks out and replacing them with sti ones, or will the electrics be different too ?

The OP has a NON turbo car not a wrx so most things will be different.No the instrument cluster isnt a plug and play on a non turbo car iirc

The arches are an interesting point, does anyone know for sure if they are different ?
And yes! thanks, i guess i should've just said i was looking for cosmetic differences, would have avoided most of the confusion and insults : )

the arches are the same,the wiring loom however is very different so just swapping like for like from an STi will not work.You will need to do a lot of splicing of wires to get things to work.

Can i ask why you didnt buy an STi to start with?

I havent bought anything yet, im just trying to figure out what's better to get. Trying to get a price difference in parts so i can start comparing the price difference between getting an sti or non turbo shell.

by shell, i mean a car that has no working engine and no gearbox, but has all the trim bits etc.

So if the price of parts i need to get to make a non turbo shell look like STI shell is less than the actual price difference between shells, i'll just get a non turbo shell etc

I would just go with the real McCoy mate, its easier and you also have to think about the value when it comes to selling it

So you are saying that if it says STI in the logbook, instead of just an impreza, even though those cars are identical, the STI will sell for more ? The problem is < can we put an exact price on it ? How much will the difference be exactly ?

I am currently swayed towards getting a non sti shell, because I can get some really nice dampers and springs instead of just plain STI ones, i also dont really fancy the colors of STI interior, although i really like bucket seats, but most likely i will be retrimming the interior anyway, so i will only be getting front seats and Non Sti shell works out MILES cheaper

yes, look at the prices for classic's, sti's are normally double the price, bugeye wrx even when done up to the same spec about £4k, sti's £6,500 and so on.
