Default Used 08 STI how risky?

Looking at buying a used 08 STI but have been reading many horror stories about piston ringland failure.

My question is how do if the the car you are buying has had a replacement engine or the new fuel map flashed to the ECU? is there a typical mileage that this occurs?

Any advice would be great

I believe this occurs early in its life, mine went at 9k.The dealers should reflash it at its first service, but i would check with the dealer if the book is stamped to be certain.

This is my old one if you are looking.
