98 wrx wagon
had my wagon on the dyno today it has full 3" decatted exhaust it only did 243 bhp with 204 torque , i thought they were meant to be 250 standard . the operator told me it had a misfire at top end on the first run but was fine on the next 2 runs could this have given a low figure, also was a bit lean in the mid range but have just looked and the air filter is a bit dirty cheers j

my std uk wagon was pretty much exactly these figures with a 2.5" decat and a 3" decat downpipe, was a horrible shape torque curve and the power delivery only really started higher up the rev range, car drove fine on the road though. Always best to check oil and filters and plugs etc before paying for a rolling road session as you risk wasting your money or coming away with some could it be this could it be that questions. I guess you know that now though.

Wiki is wrong. 1998 WRX Saloons were rated at 280PS. 1997 onwards WRX 'Wagons were rated at 240PS: earlier cars at 220PS. I thought that they remained at 240PS but I see that one Japanese reference now states 250PS, which used indicate 240PS. Perhaps Wiki has followed this, but considering its rather amateurish mistake I wouldnt trust it in this instance.

A & B series Saloons 240PS. A, B & C1 + C2 series automatic Saloons 220PS. C1 + C2 series Saloons 260PS. D series onwards Saloons 280PS. A, B, C1 + C2 series 'Wagons 220PS. D series 'Wagons 240PS. Whether E series onwards 'Wagons have 250PS or not, I cant say (though I believe not).

Remember that the bhp figures quoted for wrx models are when the cars are using 100ron fuel as in japan . A uk 98 model is quoted as 208bhp when using 97 ron fuel, which is why many import models never make there quoted bhp when run on uk fuel. The difference between using 97 ron & 100 ron fuel can be up to 30+ bhp.
My 99 uk wagon made 241bhp with similar mods to your wrx, before it was mapped,so maybe the performance difference between the uk & jap imports is not always as far away as people believe imho.

Most of the rated outputs on my posts above were obtained using 97/98RON fuel. 100RON fuel wasnt always available in Japan. It is true that the 240PS 'Wagons were released after the introduction of 100RON fuel, but whether they depend on it I am far from sure. For a V3 onwards STI 'Wagon Id say that RON was critical, but for TD04-equipped 'Wagons Im not so sure: irrespective of whether theyre rated at 220PS or 240PS.
