Urgent Help Please - Airbag light & service
Hello,
For those that read my previous post, I have decided to buy the standard 2004 WRX from the dealer that I had looked at, mainly due to insurance costs (too many points!)
I need to make a deposit payment tomorrow morning if I want the car but I have a couple of niggling questions which I'd appreciate a bit of advice on if you would be so kind.
1) The previous owner fitted STI seats and the dealer told me that according to the previous owner the Airbag light comes on intermittently (5% of the time) although he hasn't seen it and it didn't come on during my test drive. He thinks this is due to the connecting wires from the STI seats.
Anyone know anything about this? or should I be concerned?
2) This dealer is an independant, mainly dealing in vauxhalls & Fords, they got the car in Aug09 with full subaru dealer history, they then did oil & brake service (replaced pads and discs) at 39000miles, they sold it in Sep09 and took it back on a trade-in last week from the same owner. Its now sitting at 42000miles and they are willing to carry out the big service for me as part of the deal.
Is there anything special in this service that has to be done by subaru or a specialist?
Any specific quality of parts that must be specified as required, I guess they will try to use the cheapest bits?
3) They are offering a 3 month 'all inclusive' warranty direct from themselves, not through a broker. I am thinking about taking it to a Subaru specialist after I buy to go through it to check for any damage or bits that need repairing, I'll then take it back to them and get it done under warranty.
They have a good reputation in the area and I met quite a few people there that were repeat customers so think they would honour the agreement.
I'll be paying 7800 for the car, I know it's a bit pricey but I want the comfort factor of the warranty which I wouldn't have if I went Private.
Any advice about the Airbag light and service would be great before I commit, then I can get on here with real questions about modifying and learning to handle it properly!!
Cheers

I know it's not a Subaru but I have just rectified an airbag problem on my Peugeot that had an airbag light on which was dodgy connectors under the drivers seat. I just replaced the connectors and it sorted it out.
If you are buying from a dealer of any sort the car should have no problems at all and I wouldn't take it with any issues especially an airbag light.
If it's a simple fix then they should easily sort it for you.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
JH1 - Thanks for the offer but I can't afford to get insured on modded car (9pts in last 5 years) and I like the comfort factor of the warranty.
BOB - You're right, they should rectify but they aren't a specialist dealer and I am screwing them hard to do the 60k service for me as part of the deal and after that I'll take it to AWD in perth to give it the once over, any defects and its up to the dealer to sort under warranty. I've just emailed them my intentions and once they confirm in writing that they would be willing to sort out any probs found then I'll be happy.
Hopefully they'll agree to my terms and next time I come on I'll be posting some pics!
