Default Help with Impreza wrx 300 bhp

I have recently purchased an 05 Impreza WRX 300 with PPP pack on it. I was told on purchase that the power output was approx 265 bhp. I had a rolling road test today at Scooby Clinic which gave BHP reading of 213.9BHP. They suggest that the PPP pack is not fitted as stated on purchase. I spoke to the dealer who sold it to me today and he says the BHP is measured at the flywheel of the car not on the 4 wheels and the road test measures just that the wheels. He and he is sure the PPP pack is installed. Has anybody else come across this problem and can you help. Who is right?

Does the car have the Prodrive branded back box and blue pipe/hose visible just under the intercooler? If it has neither of those then it's definitely not got it.

Rolling road operator should be able to give you figures at the fly and at the wheels. Definatly not installed by the sounds of it though - either that or you have a serious problem somewhere.

Worth noting there should also be a certificate for the PPP install if it has had it done, at the very least I would want to see a receipt.

hmmm. i have a 2007 wrx ppp, supposedly 270bhp. I reckon it's more like 240 - 250bhp max. Apparently it's not unusual and remember it all depends on the age / wear / mileage of the other parts of the engine too. Sounds like the dealer was just quoting Prodrive numbers off the website... but as rhys172 says, check the bits! Laterz, Chris

I'm sure the guys at scooby clinic know what they are talking about.

I think a rolling road can measure both wheel BHP and that at the fly wheel.

as i understand it the wrx 300 was basically a wrx with PPP fitted 'standard' (plus other nice bits) to get to the Subaru quoted 261bhp? So, you 'may not' get a seperate Prodrive certificate - not sure how that worked - but you can still tell easily by looking at intercooler pipe - it should be blue with Prodrive on it - plus you get the Prodrive back box etc... to give it away!

I have the prodrive backbox, intercooler pipe plus the wrx 300 order form and certificate but the guys at scooby clinic think the prodrive ECU may have been removed at some point and replaced with a standard one. The guy that deals with the standard ecu's was off so i can't tell for sure yet.

Is there a silver sticker on the B pillar on the drivers side saying something like PPP fitted Advise your insurance company? If it has get your ECU checked as pointed out above. Previous owner could have sold or swapped it when they sold car. PPP ECU will be marked as such ( both of mine have been. ) Bob

just to clarify the 213.9bhp was at the flywheel the other we graph we gave shows 160bhp at the wheels. This car appears not to have a ppp pack on it hence the figures.

Your dealer may not even be aware of this, We have seen many allegedly ppp'd cars that have had their ppp bits replaced with standard parts and then sold on before the new owner purchased the car.

We can post these graph's if the OP would like.

hmmm. still has to be some sort of come back to the 'dealer' if the ECU has been replaced but still sold as an 'original' UK300 car? If it was a private sale, well then usual 'buyer-beware' issues, but not a dealer surely?

Feel for you mate if that's the case, but hopefully you can sort out an agreement with the dealer.

laterz.

Well done that man. Anyone can make a car look like some thing it's not with a bit of cosmetic work and aftermarket bits.

The concern is the unknowing being sold goods by someone who has not done their homework or is being plain dodgey!

Thanks for all your replies. I have spoken to Triangle Subaru at Chesterfield today they suggest the PPP Ecu that was originally fitted should have a serial number which is traceable and they are looking into it now. When they come back with the serial number this will hopefully show if the ecu is a genuine ppp or if it has been replaced with a standard wrx ecu. If anyone has experienced anything similar please let me know and thanks again for all the support.

i had wrx blob with ppp and should have been 265,i had it rolling roaded and got 231 at the fly and 174 at the wheels, my brothers car same year/mileage but with magnex back box got 243 and 166.
rr operator said mines was stil faster on the road due to the better torque line and boost level etc.

Default WRX 300

Hi mate,

You might have all the facts now, been a few months since the your post.

I also own a WRX300, send me your email address and I'll email you the official Subaru WRX300 brochure, this lists all it's features and states 265 BHP, the car was factory fitted with PPP plus other nice additions, all listed.

A true WRX300, has PPP factory fitted from the outset.
