Default my mate needs some help with his subaru please..

hi guys, my mate wants me to post up his problem and hopefully someone will have some answers for him as hes a little stuck.

well basically he has a new age Impreza and he said his gear box is making some noise, like a winey kind of noise in all of the gears and he thinks his gearbox oil may be empty as he had a oil leak a couple of days ago and one of the seals has gone, he thinks that the seal and low oil may be causing the noise, maybe a simple gearbox oil top up and new seal could solve his problem? or is it something bigger than that?..

any one have any views on what it could be, could be a simple repair or is the gearbox knackered?

Has he not checked the oil level on his gearbox?

He should have the owners manual, its in there but otherwise you use the dipstick in the engine bay the owners manual shows you where it is

Its a plain metal dipstick so it can be a little hard to see, could be slighly covered by the intercooler but normally easy enough to find

does anyone know weather low gearbox oil causes these winey noises then? will a simple top up cure it?

there's a decent chance that filling it up again might reduce noise and give it a bit more life, at least until he can source another box. But yeah, damage will have been done.
