Default Bit F**ked off to tell you the truth

well i didnt know where on the forum to rant so appologies if its in the wrong place.

basically i wont name and shame yet incase its all genuine but my gearbox was gone/going on the scooby so i went about sourcing a new one... im only an apprentice so money is tight but i scrap by to run my much loved scoob!. i found a gearbox and picked it up and the epic 2 day change started..

now the box was low milage and £250...bargin! so i thought... got all the old box out spent ages and got all the new shizz in which took too long after the car had been not touched for year meaning everything was seized. finally got it in and running when low and behold... this gearbox is just as much of a shi**er than the last one...

the last box the gears were knackered but on this its the diff.... theres alot of play in the shafts which wasnt noticed early on unfortunatly and it whines like a ****... considering ive spent £400 putting this box in and 2 days off road also costing me money...

F**ked of is a term id use lightly

who was the box off of? i had the same problem when i broke my gearbox back in 07, i was offered a the gearbox that my engine came off of so gave it a go, turned out to be worse then the gearbox i had just taken out, got my money back for the box, no money though for the syntrax oil that was ruined, and my own time fitting it.

As dunx says .... mix 'n' match

You may have learnt a lesson here, however harsh, things are normally cheap for a reason!

I have a decent Transmission Specialist just outside the village I live in - I would have handed him my old one and asked him to re-furbish. Yes, may have cost around £400 (guessing) - but I would have a known item of known history.

mix and match is all very well.. but i have no money to take the box out ....miss getting to work while box's are swapped etc and then pay to put it back in.

lots of £££ it was a rant more than anything bit of a vent... the going rate for a 2nd hand box was £250-300 so i thought it was good not really cheap in my opinion.. but o well

Hate to agree with SSU (again) but I had my last box reconned by Trade Transmissions in Peterborough. Under £400 and twelve months warranty on the work and the parts.

Best option now is to get your money back from the vendor or mix and match as suggested by Dunx.

Know what it is like to do this on a serious budget. Come back if you need help and good luck
