After rebuilding the engine on my wagon turbo (1996) because the bottom end was knocking, (i had a good bottom end so i swaped everything over, new gaskets etc), i dropped it back in today and ran it up, it ticks over smoothly, but when i try and rev it up - it not so much miss fires but splutters, if you get what i mean? i have also noticed the boost guage is not working now, so maybe i got some boost pipes the wrong way round? but its also smoking when reved up, but not on tick over, could this be related to the boost pipes?

 

unfortunately there's a lot of stuff that could be.

cel being check engine light ? ( sorry not sure what cel is) no engine check light is on, thinking its the pipes to the boost solonoid wrong way round? but id need a picture of someones to put them right. as theres a few possibilitys. thanks for you advice so far
