My dad has just bought himself a 1993 GMC Typhoon.

It's a 4.3 V6 Turbo 4wd Truck that looks like this:

They run 1.0 bar standard but can be cranked up to nearly 3.0 bar quite easily!!!!!!
Standard they are 280bhp and 360lbsft@3600rpm

I've just been on their bbs and there's a few stories of them blowing away scoobs and other jap roadrockets.

One guy reckons his does the quarter in 10.summat seconds!!!

They are talking about the new (to them) MY04 STi that is due in the future as they don't have the STi yet I think.

They are all saying it'll give them a run for their money!!!
In a straight line maybe because they handle like turd.

The site id www.syty.net/phpBB/

Has anyone ever raced one?

10's...don't think so....we've got a *silly* modded one here, and he hasn't run any better than a low 11 iirc.

They are wicked motors though.

When they were introduced back in the early 90's the Cyclone pick variant was timed at 4.3secs for 0-60mph, and this is on car that was standard and has an automatic gearbox. The Typhoon is not that far behind it on outright pace.

Hmm, if the guys (I suppose they are Americans from Michigan preferably) talk about beating jap rockets, they surely talk about 1.6 Civic's or Mitsu Eclipse etc...

Beating an Eclipse is doing pretty well. 2-litre turbo with 210 bhp will do 0-60 in around 6 secs iirc. Also available in 4wd. Always felt Mitsu shoul have brought them to the UK.

As for the GMC - I wouldn't fancy it much on British road, bounce all over the place. Suspension would take some serious sorting.
