Hi there, new to this ... im intending on buying an impreza in the coming months and i am trying to get some general prices and opinions.
What would i be expecintg to pay for services from a dealer or specialist ? Would you recommend going to either a dealer or the specialist.
thanks for your time

Subaru4you has a list of main dealer prices here that shows a 'typical' comparison of what you're looking at.

Brett,
On my second Impreza now and am going through exactly the same issues - Specialist or Main Dealer.
Here's what I've learnt...
1. If you get a UK car (dealers won't touch imports for servicing or the supplying of parts), the situation with the Warranty (if still applicable to your car) is this:-
a. Subaru Japan supply the first years warranty and within
the first year of ownership you can take it _anywhere_ as
long as they use either Subaru genuine parts of 'parts of
better quality' - very vague!
b. Subaru UK supply the extra two years warranty because they
'believe' in the car. However... this is really after-market
warranty and in order to keep it you _MUST_ take it to a
Subaru dealer within either 1000 miles or a month (I think)
of the service interval.
Regarding service pricing I am due an Interim Service (just an oil and filter change and a bit of an inspection) and that is £110 at Cheam Motors in Surrey.
Other prices of servicing my MY94 at Roger Clarke Motorsport (specialist) in Desford:-
Cambelt change and major service (60k mile) - £500
Clutch Change to STi clutch - £780
Brake disk and caliper change to P1 4-pots - £60 (AFAIK)
Hope that helps
Matt.

For anything up to MY01...
The service intervals are 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes sooner.
7.5k = minor
15k or multiple thereof = bigger...
Change plugs & fluids every 30k (or 2 years) = £320 quid (Robinsons of Rochdale - KT Green wanted 420!)
Change cambelt every 45k (or three years) = £400 quid ish
So, a 6 year old car is due a 90k service which is both the 30k and 45k... Beware of that one!
Don't forget tyres (20k per set if you're good-ish), brake pads, and the inevitable mods
Be realistic with the pricing, check you really can afford it, then go for it.

Hi Matt - not 100% true to say that dealers won't touch imports. European sourced cars seem fine - all the dealers that are local to me are only too happy to take my money.
I guess this principle mainly applies if it's a Jap import.
Cheers, HB.
