Default Sunken 70yr Old Bugatti fetches £228,000!!

An ultra-rare Bugatti had been raised from the bottom of a lake in Italy and, despite its decrepit state, was due to be auctioned. It was estimated that the Type 22 Roadster could fetch up to £80,000, but this weekend (January 23) the car smashed expectations by attracting a winning bid nearly three times as much.

In Paris, the Bugatti was lot number 250 in the prestigious Rétromobile Salon, held in Porte de Versailles. A staggering €260,500 (about £228,000) was secured for the car, which is estimated to require 80 percent restoration - having been under water for 70 years.

That huge sum of money isn't going to a rich seller either; it's going to a worthy cause in the form of the Fondazione Damiano Tamagni, named after a young Italian diver who was attacked and then tragically died. The foundation was set up to address juvenile violence and the Bugatti was raised from the deep by local dive club members in conjunction with Tamagni's father.

Just been down to my local lake and discovered a pristine 1980 Mini Metro. With a good cleanup, engine overhaul and a new biege interior I reckon I am looking at a return of £80...........still its a start.......
