Anything above 300 on a uk classic box and 320lbs on a classic late sti and newage wrx 2ltr box and you should start to consider upgrading if you want to carry on tuning.

My box was the original standard fitment box for a JDM version 5 WRX, lasted an entire season of Prostreet and some 30-35 hard launches before finally throwing in the towel on a dyno day in October. 4th gear let go and was all that reqd replacing. Box now back in again and all is well .
Obviously I can't say how long anyone elses will last.

i do 2,but ive heard many people braking the uk 5 speed at 350lb and less,im running 303lbft and its never missed a beat and feels identical to when the car was only 215lbft,im in a dilemma of going for 330ish or 350ish because the 5 speed is my main concern!im starting to think it would make no odds, but who knows????

My last classic MY95 UK's box let go at 300/300, so i guess it's a lot to do with luck, my RA's at 335/320, and holding fine at the mo. Will be running a little more when Api have finished the forged build, so will be interesting to see how it lasts.

My bugeye 5 speed was OK with the TD05 at about 350 BHP but as soon as I added methanol injection and ran at 400 BHP and about 350 torque it smashed 2 gearboxes in 8 weeks........ now run a Jap 6 speed (API) but keep looking for 7th gear on the motorwar LOL

I broke 3rd gear both times.....it might be due to the fact that for the newage box 3rd gear is the default option for doing anything....whatever gear you were in to start with. I'll just drop from 5th to 3rd to overtake LOL

Both times I was dropping down into 3rd to overtake a tosser on the A69 and when the turbo hit boost the gearbox just crapped itself !! Not lauching from a standing start.
The second time it happened I drove around for a month or so just avoiding 3rd gear until API could sort it out.........made some funny noises and reverse was a nigtmmare to get into LOL

As I've said before I have had customers running close up to 400hp on a TY752 Vers 3 transmission and never broken it in 2 years of competition [ winning as well ! ] And guys on TY754 in road cars with barely 300 hp breaking 2nd or 3rd gear regularly.
Remember that any TY 752 is at least 12 years old with 12 years of metal fatigue. Some TY754's are 11 years old............
I think that somewhere between 350 - 380 hp and 350 - 360 ft lbs is probably Ok for a 754 - above that level and you're on borrowed time, BUT, the later 2.0 WRX 5 speeders are stronger again, especially the drop gear bearings at the back which are usually the source of most noises. So a late blob eye 2.0 5 speed is about as good as they get.
