Red face

Hi All,

This is my 1st rant on here, so here goes...
Why oh why oh why since buying my MY00 have I had everything from Focus's to XKR's sitting right up my **** obviously looking for a race.

I live in the rural parts of Notts and most the time have my wife and 1 year old on board, so I'd be stupid to squeeze the loud pedal and lose them.

I never had this problem with my last car (Honda), it seems some tw@ts out there see the Scoob and think, oh, he'd be up for a race....lets sit inches from his rear and see.

I'm pretty fed up with this, last week I had a BMW on monday, an Escort mk 4 on weds and a focus on Thursday. Its not like I'm driving like an old fart or anything.

What do I do?

Anyone else experiencing these t@ssers?

Neil

My personal favourite is to pull the handbrake gently !! although a little risky! great fun!.. an easier approach is to blast them with the headlamp washer! or of course ignore them!!!!

If its threatining you or your wife and child in any manner you should call the Police....

The scoob does attract a fairly "Formula 1" idiot be they in a normal family car or a sporty number. The easiest thing to do is pull out the way and avoid confrontation be that in the form of a race or in the form of a row/road rage. Leave yourself enough room and pull into a lay-by and let them pass.

This clearly upsets you and could be a potential flash point where you might decide to take matters into your own hands, which is a serious no-no!

I must admit that I find myself doing what RonaldoH says more often now. I just pull over, especially when I'm in a 30 and it's a mad female following me about three feet from my bumper.

I make no apologies for the sexism: it's normally women doing this in a 30 zone. Dunno why.

I'm probably going to get mildly flamed for saying this, but most BMW DRIVERS F*****G SUCK! Especially the jumped up little prats in their 20's, like I am, with some crappy new 323 or whatever sh*t pile. I always get them on the motorway, tailgating, flashing me to get out of the way, regardless of whether I'm doing 85 or a ton!! undertaking, lane jumping, swerving between lanes, locking up in the fast lane at a ton+ when they fail to notice PC Plod's radar pointing at them until they are 50 yards ahead!!Every time that I get one of these To$$ers flashing me or doing any 'cunning stunts', I always show my appreciation with a finger merchant banker sign. I just wish one of stop, get out of the car and take me on. Bring it on you scum! 6'7" 18 stone skinhead just waiting for your reasons for constantly driving dangerously and with NO REGARD for others on the road. BURN IN HELL. I have had enough of them, FULL STOP.

I no, someone's kicked me off again!

Woman in a 30 zone, oh yes,Im sick of woman tailgating me!! "Graham, Graham, we love you Graham", wherever I go, flashing me (and I dont mean with lights ), always trying to get my attention by travelling on my bumper.
But seriously, Woman + Big Toyota Landcruser= silly cow tailgater.
It also has something to do with having a nice car, you sudenly become more paranoid "is he/she (she) going to be able to stop if I have to stop? is my lovely car going to get ruined?" its paranoia, because when I had an "inbetween car to try and keep insurance low Corsa", I hardly noticed it, whereas now Im like an Eagle, always on the look out for potential problems.
Nice cars will send you to an early grave.

If you are careful, & very light footed. whilst they are behind you, just touch the brake, this will not slow you down but flash the brake lights.

Make sure you try it first on a quiet road with nothing else around.

IMHO Vectra drivers are the worst on earth, I apologise to anyone who's got one and can drive but most of them are so annoying. Your in the outside lane doing about eighty but not really getting forward and there's some chump an inch of your bumper, so you let them past only for them to go slower than you were!

Bob

PS Is this thread too wide for the screen or have I buggered my dad's pc?

Have a vectra driver behind me today, showed him that i like some distance between me and him the other one was a laguna (woman driver) who nearly went up the back end when i braked for slow traffic, she just swerved and hoped there wasnt anything there!! along with the mondeo behind her!!!!!
But my worst one today was a renault clio, just sitting in the middle lane, traffic coming off the slip road to the Left, was doing 85mph and this dizzy cow (blonde and very attractive but still dizzy!!) came onto the motorway, was behind a lorry so decides to carry on into my lane ohhhh atleast my ABS works!! gave her one hell of a stare when i passed her, was not a happy teddy.

I see this all the time on the Motorway with most people in the outside lane bunching up and crashing into each other. I must see about 2-3 shunts per week on the Motorway due to people tailgating each other. Most people have no idea how far it takes to stop a car from 80-0 on a dry road let alone a wet road. As soon as they see brake lights on go theirs in a panic reaction which causes more problems. I also find lorry drivers are just as bad especially in the wet. Answer from lorry driver on the TV was that it takes them to much time to get back up to speed so they would rarther risk an accident then slow down. Also how may people have you seen using mirrors to do makeup/hair etc on the Motorway.

I also think we all pay a lot more attention because we don't want to see the front/back of the car on the Motorway floor.

Rant over, still this often cause me to come of the Motorway early and find a another way home (look at that stupid t*** overtaking five cars at time)

Bob, Yeah it has dawned on me that these things are true, thank god.

Everyone thinks that i'm going to Donnington to check out the cars and meet a few people, but really i'm checking out coat hooks, cup holders and how much paperwork i can fit on my front seat. I might even ask harj if i can put a few samples in the boot of his 22b while he takes me round

Plenty of w***ers on A and B roads, but it is easy to lose them.
On motorways, I normally only do 80-85 as too many unmarked cops around in ST24/ST 2000 and T5 Volvos.
When I have had Vectra man/ Mondeo man or some **** in a BMW up my ****, I check the road ahead, drop into third and slow down.
When the arsehole behind has realised and hit the brakes I nail it for a few seconds and then drop back to my normal speed.
Eventually they catch up, but never tail gate again. If I'm not in the outside lane I just let them go past and hope PC plod gets them, as happened on Thursday night on the M5 to a people carrier.
Talking about blondes in BMWs, I was following a 328i coupe with full body kit, on A roads, and was calling him all names under the sun, as he was slow and very hesitant at junctions. When we came to a dual track I stormed past and was about to give the finger, only to notice a drop dead gorgeous blonde driving. ( need I say more )
I pulled in infront of her and she followed me for several miles. At the next roundabout I went left and she went straight on, as she did she waved and then flashed her wedding ring at me!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried the windscreen washer technique this weekend and it worked quite well.

If there's someone behind me who's obviously in a hurry I generally just let them get past as I've been in the same situation in the past and know how frustrating it can be.
They may just be driving like complete T##TS or they could be in a real hurry, i.e. baby just been born/Mother in Law's just exploded(I wish).

The point is that if someone is driving badly the best place for them is as far away from you as possible.

Saying that, people who sit on your bumper when it's obvious your waiting to get past slower traffic (generally Merc vans and Peugeot 406's) should have the ***** of their feet flogged.

If it is daylight, I put my headlights on for a second or two. From behind the tailgater assumes that you are braking and backs off....

A common problem is being tailgated when you're behind a slower vehicle and you're approaching an overtaking zone, such as single carriageway to dual carriageway, or a slip-road onto a motorway.

I've lost count of the number of cars that think they have a right to overtake me and the slower vehicle instead of letting me go first. I don't like to block people as I feel it's too confrontational, so I do this instead...

Drop back to allow a decent-sized gap to the slower vehicle. When Mr. Tailgater swoops to the right and begins to accelerate to overtake, I simply nail it in a straight line to re-establish my lead over him and then pull out safely to overtake. Afterwards, I simply pull back in and allow the tailgater to overtake me. Assuming he can catch up, of course!
