Tesco 99 question
What's the difference between 7800:2000 an 7800?
My sti ppp runs alot quicker on the 7800:2000, is this one a higher octane?
Car hasn't been remapped by the way.

You are talking about the BS Numbers (Super Unleaded is BS 7800:2000) which most people will have no clue what you are on about. You need to talk in Octane ratings, Tesco 99 and Vpower (Both 99ron) are reputidly the best fuel to run your Scoob on unless it has been specifically Mapped to run on Standard Unleaded, These fuels tend to Increase Fuel economy and also Increase power by a small amount.
From what I can find:
95 Octane unleaded - BS 228:2000
97 Octane unleaded - BS 7800:2000
DERV - BS EN 590:2000
I cant find a BS standard for VPower or Tesco 99 so may come under the 7800:2000 bracket.
So Yes 7800:2000 (Super Unleaded 97ron+) is the Higher octane rated fuel, but I use Only Tesco99 or Vpower in my UK STI. Hope that helps.

You do have to careful with Tesco's as some stations Super Unleaded is the 97 stuff, not the 99.

Fuel
The difference between Tesco and Shell,Shell obtain their super fuel by better distillation,Tesco do it by adding chemicals, dont use BP this has some hostile chemicals in it,My STI JDM runs great on Vmax,if I have to use Tesco 99 I never push the car near its limit. It maybe me but Vmax has a sweeter smell, the wife told me to stop sniffing it !!!!

That's a myth isn't it Evo Mag checked a few years ago & biggest influence over quality was how long the fuel had sat in the tank before being dispensed ergo Tesco etc is bound to be better as their fuel gets used up quicker so is always fresh! T99 is as good as anything else out there ...
Can't comment on your fuel economy of course
TX.

Post 2005 cars should run on 95 octane fine, they all have a knock sensor -the only problem is a loss of power is the I timing retards.
Though I agree for heavy turbo boost sessions super unleaded is prefered.
If you can afford SUL use it.

I don't know if this will help. There was an episode of Fifth Gear and they actually tested the octane levels in fuel. (as far as I can remember) They tested a super market, BP and Shell. The supermarket and BP's octane was actually lower than they claim but Shell was spot on with their octane level.

Unless they've started selling 99, then that would explain the difference.

Tesco gets its Octane higher by adding Ethanol to normal fuel, VPower doesn't get its higher Octane this way, its just a better fuel. VPower has a higher calorific (spelling?) value than T99 so you should have more stored chemical energy in the same amount of fuel. All T99 alows you to do is get more power by advancing the ignition timing. Better off adding Ethanol to VPower, then you will get a much better pump available fuel.
