I'm afraid it's the same with every dealer.

If you told them before, then you don't have to pay for it.

£1.49 They must have seen you coming, only charged me £1.22 at my recent 90k service
Can't be arsed with it really tho when total bill is £635
If you did mention that it was full though it seems a bit out of order, do you use this dealer regular? I know it shouldn't matter but the relationship I have with with my dealer is great and this kind of thing just wouldn't happen, must just be lucky...or daft
Did you mention it to them?

From my experience Melon, you're lucky.

Every dealer I have ever used (Subaru x 3,Honda x 2, Toyota, Ford & Renault) has done it. It's one of those great little money spinners, nobody could every prove if they did it, or how much they put in. It might be only £1-1.50 a pop, but over a year, that's a tidy sum.

well this was my first service with them since purchasing the car,
do we have to stick to these subaru dealers or is there anywhere else, I have a friend who is a mechanic and owns his own garage,
but not sure whether I should have him service the car
don't know

Apparently the next one will kill me 60,000miles money wise

Good (?!) News SheScooby - there's another service before you get to the expensive 60k one, at 52,500 miles (or in 6 months). It's the minor one - don't pay substantially more than £100 for it.

Exclamation

Just a point to note

Dealers are under increasing costs of environmental disposal for everything. Oil, oil filters, antifreeze, brake fluid, used metal parts, used friction parts, the list goes on.

Screen wash is a way to offset these costs.

I'm not making any particular statement - just that I'd happily knock £3 of any service bill if you want to take the old oils and parts home. Shame is some of them would end up in normal bins.

I've also seen the mysterious 'consumables' on service bills in the past (not had this with my local Subaru dealer I hasten to add). What the heck is that? Never found out, despite asking.

When I last got the car serviced, as well as checking all the bulbs etc I made sure the screen wash was full to the gunnels, thinking then I wouldn't get charged £1.75 for the little tube thingy.

Service manager took me through the bill and lo and behold, there it was. I cried foul, but he said it was part of their service pack and if there wasn't room it would have been left in the car.

Ok so it's only £1.75, but for 125ml?????? That's £14/litre guv - somebody's taking the pi$$.

I've since used it to clean my specs - managed 2 cleans

Mike.

It makes you laugh doesn't it to what they can charge you for,
They also Rang and told me that both my back tyres are on the illegal limit of their treads, they said they have some in stock each costing £112.00 each + Vat, I said no its ok I will get them done myself, then they told me that the driver is not willing to bring the car back to cos of these tyres being illegal, I said well he drove it down....
anyway they bought it back to me, as soon as it was back I took the car to a tyre place and they said no the tyres are fine they are not illegal. So the dealer is trying to make money....
not good

My Mum got charged nigh on 3 quid for "emery cloth" on a standard service for a Renault Clio.

After a fair old argument including "show me what you used" to get the response, "that was the last bit we used for you. And the bins get emptied just before you turned up" the service manager got involved. Result? Next service free. And yes, she sat and watched 'em for that service...

I know garages have to make money, but this sort of thing *really* gets on my thrupennies.

Hmmmmmm

I have to say that whilst every service I get the bottle in the car I'm not that botherered over £1.75 - hell if you want cheap running buy a bloody daewoo...life's is way too short etc etc.

Park's in Exeter - so far had 3 services done and each one is cheaper than the quote on the phone and compares favourably to others proces.

No relation in any way to the dealer just beleive that they do a good job.

Question

And it's not as if they are not making enough from the service in the first place. A 7500 mile service is simply an oil and filter change so how come it costs £100?

I could do it myself in 10 minutes so you are basically paying £100 for a little stamp in the book.

Unhappy

Blue Peter?? erm... something like that!!

While we are on the subject of servicing it seems to me that a lot of the things done to an Impreza are unnecessary.

First of all Body services, I can think of no other car that has to have this done. As far as I can see this is a nice little earner for the Dealership.

On the 30,000 mile/24 month service as far as I can recall the Brake Fluid and coolant are both changed. Seems a little on the excessive side to me.

If dealers want to make a charge for getting rid of the old gear I have no problems with that.. Put 'disposing of old materials' on the bill and I'll pay it.. Don't put screenwash when I haven't had any..

It's not the money it's the priciple and the trust..

If you walked into newsagent to buy a paper for 30p and they charged you 35 you'd query it... You'd be well put out it they said it was to cover the polos you'd never had... What's the difference?

Roger the Cat,

I'm not bothered about £1.75, it's the fact you get f**k all for it, and you don't ask for it.

It would be better spent towards some barley pop!

At least you don't have to go to a Land Rover dealer! They have mastered the art of charging for extras. Last month got another recall on the Freelander and ended up paying £100 for the extras.

Anyone want a 3 Yr old Freelander. good reason for sale "uk300"
