Mid Range Performance MY 01 Scooby
#1
My MY01 Scooby (No Mods)has what i can only describe as a flat spot in the rev range at about 4900 to 5300 after which it picks up again. I thought this might improve with mileage, i have done nearly 12,550mls with no improvement. Is this normal i love my car to bits (First Scooby) but it is annoying. Dealer reported the car as ok when the 10,000ml service was done. I appreciate any comments. PS needed new fronts after 9,500mls now on SO3's Need new front pads shortly any recomendations.
Cheers

Hi mate,
Im afraid that there was a bit of a flat spot when i bought my car - i think its something to do with noise and emission regs - they test at approx 5000rpm.
It was only slight though - so if its really aweful id suggest theres something wrong. The flat spot got less as the engine got a few miles on the clock (about 4000miles and it seemed to loosen up a lot).
I learnt to drive around it and ultimately had a PPP fitted - which cured the problem.
i would push them to check it out.... but ultimately sidestep the issue and buy a PPP!! its fantastic and really transforms the car!!

My car had the same flat spot. Changing the exhaust (to a Scoobysport) and removing the 3rd cat got rid of the flat spot entirely. I believe, but haven't definitive proof, that the 3rd cat was the problem, but the sound of the Scoobysport means I'm keeping it on! By the way, part of the PPP is the removal of the 3rd cat ...

Had this more or less confirmed at my dealership.
Because of all the cats in the exhaust pipe the air flow is somewhat restircted around the turbo causing it to spool up much slower. When the gasses build up it really slows the unit down, causing the feel of a flat spot. The cure as above, decat it.
Nathan.
