350BHP Impreza Sti

350BHP Impreza Sti
Hi,
I am looking at buying an Impreza Sti on a 03-05 plate in the next couple of months and would like to increase the power to about 350BHP, but what I am not sure on is how would I achieve this and would I have to do any major upgrades to the engine, Gearbox or Clutch? I was hoping that I could achieve this by just re-mapping the ECU!
Assume that the car is completely standard as well.
Cheers

Welcome to scoobynet
for 03-05 cars the gearbox and clutch should be fine at that power level as long as you dont do drag starts from every set of lights, but you will need to upgrade the exhaust system, bigger fuel pump and a remap should see you about 320, to get anymore than this i think a bigger turbo from one of the later cars is needed, along with bigger fuel injectors, standard airbox and intercooler is usually good for around 400bhp so no need to upgrade them.
if you were to go for an 05-07 car only the basic mods and a remap will take you to somewhere in the region of 360bhp and 380ftlbs torque, with it being a 2.5 and having the vf43 turbo as standard.

I was thinking of getting the 2.5 version but I have about 10K to spend on a car including mods! and really wanted an sti with less than 40K on the clock! Not to sure with one's with higher millage!

I think you guys might be right! I have found one on Autotrader for just over 10K,
2006 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.5 WRX STi Type UK 4dr Saloon
plus if I buy from a dealer I would be trading in my current car in as well! (only worth about 2K tho)
The other option is buying a standard WRX and moding it to about 350 that way, but I am not sure if they use the same components as the sti!?!

Newage 2.0 STi (01-05) - Decat exhaust system and remap (with reputable mapper) along with uprated fuel pump should see 340-350 bhp and torque not far behind. VF35 turbo maxes out at about 350 bhp. Maybe £1000-£1200 to do, but quite likely to be able to pick one up ready made. Std clutch and gearbox fine for this. Do not go WRX route IMHO.
