STi ok in car wash?
Hey,
IMO car washes have a new under car protection waxxy stuff...I pulled in to have it done but bottled it as I read the sign about removing ariel and loose trim,I wasn't sure if it would pull off my spoiler haha.
they safe? I know not good for the paintwork but...

Car wash with brushes a no-no
Car wash where you have a jetwash system slightly better but remember every tom, dick and harry has used the brush, then lobbed in on the ground where it picks up all the dirt and grit
If I was you, I would either find a decent hand car washing service local to you who take care and attention or do it yourself.
Ask Stickymicky on here as he runs his own arc car washing business

I personally wouldn't use one because of the potential scratching to the paint work but surely the car is physically ok to go through one within having the scoop and/or spoiler ripped off?
That scoop is capable of having 155mph winds thrown through it without coming off (A few of us tried it on an Autobahn in Germany a couple of years ago on the way to the WRC so I know it's ok! )
Are these cars really that fragile?? Most folk on here are fairly careful with their cars but I can't believe that no one out there on the planet wouldn't consider putting their STi through a car wash, Subaru would surely have to put a warning in the car if a standard, as-sold, car would be so affected by such a simple thing as an automatic car wash! Most of them are fairly sophisticated bits of kit now with loads of pressure sensors etc. My work truck goes through our one at work (which is a rather basic affair) and the amber light on the roof has never been ripped off and that's only held on with a couple of small bolts.

I get what your asking - your more interested in the underwax. Word of warning about this. I have an old Landrover which I put wax on the underside - get the gear and spray from Halfrauds. BUT, on no account should you do this when the car is wet or dirty. What your going to do is seal any dirt (and salt this time of year) to the underside of your car - and this will slowly rust away. Better off just giving it a good clean at the moment and if your keen on waxing the underside wait till we've had some long dry weather.
