Default another which model thread from a newb..

Sold my evo 8 a few months ago due to the high running costs and replaced it with a mark 5 golf gti. I miss it loads and have promised myself I can have another soon, however, other half's brother bought an 03 sti after selling his evo and he really likes it and says it's not as expensive to run as the Evo. So I started thinking maybe one would be better for me but I know nothing about them really so hoping for some advice.

I want something I can drive to work and back although have access to other car so doesn't have to be used all the time. I do about 25-30 miles a day running about in town traffic. I'd also like something I can do the odd track day in. The evo was just over 350/336 so I'd like something with a decent set of *****, or a good base model for more power when funds allow. I'm looking to get something to keep for a good few years if I like it.

Looking at spending 8000-1000 depending on car and not really keen on high mileage. Could do with something that's not too horrendous on insurance as I had a claim with my first evo which stuffed me for premiums.

advice welcome, cheers.

lots to think about mate.

Would you say perfomance takes over preference on comfort?

Sti apears to tbe way forward, and for that kind of money your lookng at a good blob eye with money spare to mod, or a standard Hawkeye TBH.

Subaru : Subaru Impreza UK300 PPP - Mapped to 330Bhp+ More than STI power
Not too bothered about comfort, more bothered about economy. I know I'm not going to get loads of miles out of it but it is a consideration.

Well mpg has never been a great factor with the Subaru in my opinion, but this is something you choose to ignore when buying a impreza. MPG on a WRX/STI is generally anywhere from 23-30mpg. mine now modded and mapped seems to get around 25mpg if tootling

Road tax £212 per annum

Maintenance costs in my opinion i think are reasonable, but can be expensive if you dont do your home work!!! I now do plan all avenues especially if modding.

Service costs vary on what age of car you buy.

Estimated fuel cost for 10,000 miles/year:
£1625 to £2325 from Parkers guide.
