Default Your thoughts on laser diffusers

Well this morning whilst going with the flow of rush hour traffic to work a sneaky unmarked ford galaxy with a camera pointing out the back and a police stripe down the side probably clocked me doing just under 40 in a 30 zone whilst i was going with the flow of traffic... i wouldn't mind if id been going for a serious blast in the car but in rush hour traffic no where near a school or people going with the flow its annoying, but i will slow down there now going forwards...

So that aside, what are peoples thoughts on the laser diffuser products out there which jam the signals of these sneaky cameras. Do you think they are legal to use despite being sold as Parking Sensors or Garage Door Openers?

Anyone fitted them to their car or know anyone that has used these?

Example Diffuser:
Laser Star Diffuser Parking Sensor, Nationwide Fitting - Snooper UK

Ive got a sat nav with speed camera detector spots which has been updated this month and a sat nav snooper with gps speed camera detection which both werent aware of this new high risk zone. Radar detectors give too many false positives and never seem to work very well. The in car laser detectors are a waste of time from what i can see as if it detects a laser youve already been caught...

From my limited research they appear to be very hit and miss in terms of effectiveness.

Fit a decent one properly and they do the job well.

They have a limited lifespan I've found though and seem to burn out after about a year or so of use.

Have used the LRC100, not sure what the current ones are.

Had 1 on my first scoob, was already fitted to the car when I bought it. Not sure now on the make but LE800 springs to mind. The cop told me if it work as a jammer then expect a fine, I got no points but £200 fine, proventing the cause of justice.

The clever ones swtich off once they fire the laser back (allowing the speed reading to be taken after alerting you) and double up as a garage door opener, so very few people have any issues.

What is the penalty for not correctly displaying a numberplate?

There are number plate flippers out there that people use at shows

Most cameras on the road that are likely to cause problems are forward facing so no front numberplate will mean not getting caught for most speeding offences.

£60 Fine, no points (normally) for not displaying a front numberplate unless you have an Enzo or motorbike.

its the vans that can do you from behind, when they are parked at the side of the road, are they pointing at oncoming traffic or outgoing? best to be safe or as most cant do, stick to the limit, after all, if you can do that then you dont need a garage door opener

To catch you from the rear you would have had to of pass the scamera van. The problem with head on is that you never get to see them before they have you zapped.

Nice mixed responses here. I must admit I have heard horror stories of police prosecuting people for using the devices that cause the police gun to error. However these newer ones dont they simply give a 0 reading as if the car hasnt been targetted properly. They are also now sold as parking sensors so no need to have that all important electric garage fitted at home.

As someone else has said above, the problem is that by the time you have seen the van in the distance, with the range and level of detail of the kit the police use, you have already been nicked... Thats why alternatives that dont give points on your license are always worth knowing about.

Thumbs up

£60! Seems like a risk worth taking especially as chap above didn't get stopped / noticed in 1.5yrs of driving without one

TX.

PS - can the scameras deal with square plates?

What about if you drive with the plate up on the dash like i've seen some. ie. It's just fallen off, or been replaced and not fitted. You're displaying it, but just not where the "eyes" are looking.

TX; yes the recognise square plates. I've played with mine a bit as a friend is into digital secutiry and has an ANPR system on his drive. I get to see all the shots it's taken and percentage recognition when visiting. (* I should try some electrical tape on the plate one day to screw with it.

I looked into these lasers a few years back. Nothing convinced me on the market that they worked. So spent the £1k on other mods.

- Making you more likely to get caught by the old bill

If they are illegal to use and anyone caught using one gets a steep fine or jail then its a definite no goer from my point of view. But if these new ones that dont error police guns and "save" your license then im tempted to invest.

If you drive like you stole it all the time then you deserve to get nicked but my experience was rush hour traffic doing no harm to anyone, going with the flow of traffic. My car has AP Brakes so stops quicker than most so think the punishments are a bit unfair. Maybe we should vote Jeremy Clarkson for PM so he can do away with these silly speed limits.

These laser jammers were all the talk on here a few years back even including a group buy - who all bought one then ??!! strangely enough very little talk on them now ??!!

anyway around that time it was reported that the police were aware off the growing use off jammers and that if a car failed to give a speed reading on the operators laser gun then the reg number was noted and that a marker was put on that particular vehicle plate and if the same number ever failed the laser test again then a " visit " would be made too view the vehicle !!

possibly just scraremongering but what I do know is that the market for these jammers is nowhere as big as it was despite there being more camera vans than ever out there now.

one other thing to note is yes the lasers do burn out / loose effectivness and unfortunatly there is no way off telling that they are not working until you receive your fixed penalty in the post !!

lastly as most owners will tell you its not just a case off banging them on the front off the car and hoping for the best they have to be set / aligned up properly to get them to do there job correctly.

also dont be taken in by these laser jammers advertised in the press at what seem bargain prices these days around £60 ?? check out the net- major scam on the go just now in trying to offload a mass off now redundant so called parking sensors !!
