A big power car that always breaks?

Don't think so.

Most of the high power Impreza's tend to work (Gobstopper, Zen etc)

zen's shat itself more times than an old people convention (bit like norris's). gobstopper seems to have faired better, but wouldn't suprise me if they have had some thing happen behind closed doors.

RCM always carry enough spares to solve any problem on the day ... have you seen in their truck ? It is as not faultless as some think. Big power is hard to do.

They have not had anything happen behind closed doors, the car has always ran well thats why they win so much, its reliability thats wins not big big power, the only thing the Gobstopper has had in the last 3-4 years are a piston and bearing change and that was when Matt was just doing a normal check on the engine to see how things looked.
Last years Time Attack was won at a canter by RCM,they have been busy with changes at work, tell you more about that later.

2 litre reliability, top quality parts and the guy who built it is a decent mechanic, well he's ok.

There he is,doing his bit.

not saying they have had anything major or hidden anything, all i was saying was that i havn't heard of any major faults but i would be very surprised if there was nothing gone wrong at all. After all how many companies advertise when something happens? its just good business practise to sort it and away you go again.

like to see you justify that lol.

zens has blown at least 3 times i know of since the car was created, one of which i have pics of with fire retardand foam and a bemused phill glew stood next to it, also theres tha jap time attack trip,,,

all cars like this are seriously highly strung. as i said i am not personaly aware of any big issues with the gobstopper, but i bet there have been some, even if not mega serious.

even on F1 budgets you still get issues of varying degree's

one in question is the blue one. one that went over to japan.

i had thought the green one was a rebuilt blue one, but tbh which car it is is irelevant, the whole point is big power isn't reliable, don;t think anyone denies that.

the issue i see with usign the gobstopper as an example is that it gets stripped and rebuilt pretty frequently. which is when the isue got picked up mentioned above. lets say it wasn't, like msot high powered scoobs, it would have failed down the line, or the parts wouldn;t have been replaced.

Thanx guys. it's fascinating to see the detail that goes into these cars isn't it. ya have to take ya hat off to them really. The reason i asked was that every now and then you see the Norris Evo (white with black bonnet) every now and then but not a Scooby that has the same kind of bhp etc, obviously they must exist. Can't let the Evo clan have too much lime light can we.

You need to get yourself along and watch a few rounds of Time Attack and see some of the impreza's. As for the Norris car surely you mean the Green boggie?

Couldn't somebody run somebody everybody dislikes over or something?
Seeing a Scooby flattening Germaine Greer or Janet Street Porter, before 10 doughnuts on the trot, although her mouth is big enough to swallow a Scooby me thinks.

You're right mate about looking, but i saw the above on 5th gear and T gear, just thought a Scooby should get a look in too.

Well, this gets interesting,to clear a few points up...
The Gobstopper engine does not get re-built regularly,as I said its been stripped and checked over twice in the last 4 years and just had the pistons and bearing replaced even though they were ok.
The Gobstopper has not had problems behind closed doors,Cars breakdown on race tracks not behind closed doors.
At T.O.T.B this year they did have a map sensor problem which caused the car to cough and splutter a bit when moving off,but funnily enough they still won for the 3rd time in a row.
A massive budget, not really,if things don't break then you don't spend money on them, its the ones that keep breaking that have the massive budgets.
The truck did cost a few quid, but its used to transport the Gobstopper safely, along with all the tyres and other kit. Which incidentaly is sometimes loaned out to other Time Attack competitors, and they've even fixed some customers cars at the events because they are nice guys who will help anybody.
One other point is they don't hire professional drivers for the events, but then after all the work they put in they don't want anyone else driving it - if it was mine I wouldn't either

shame none of the big power Impreza's do any proper motor racing.

As it would test the car alot more, 15-20 laps of hard competitive driving, rather than a few warm up laps, followed by 1 or 2 hot laps and thats it in TA.

Get em in the Nippon Challenge i say!

simple, when you try to put more than double the power that the engine was originally supossed to produce, you are going to encounter problems, you are either pig headed or deluded to think you will have a reliable car at 600+.
however i think the likes of rcm and zen need a lot of respect they both had the ***** and the knowledge to build these beasts and then used them as they should be used, whitch in itself is very expensive, it would of been much easier and cheaper for them to just take there cars on rr days and blow every one away,

Olly is the son of the late great Roger Clark, but his roots lie in rallying, not circuit racing so Time Attack racing has been a steep learning curve for him,but its pretty cool watching him drifting the Gobstopper around the corners, checkout the videos on their website.
