Default Cheap car question please

Looking to get either a 205 gti 1.9 or nova 16v sometime after the new year. If you had a choice out of the two and only those as i dont want to complicate things, which one and why?

205 Gti

It is the better drive.

The 1.6 is a more rounded car than the 1.9 in stock form.

Assuming they're the same price and in good nick, the Peugeot wins every time on account of being almost the definitive hot hatch, and a scream to drive, while the Nova is a chavvy sh*tbox.

205 is definetly the better of the two. But I have owned some cracking Novas when I was a lot younger including an SRi and a Sport. The Sport was a cracking little car and rare as rocking horse sh*t now!

novas r smart if you find the right in standard from ie gte sr or sport but most of the 16v red tops have had the ***** raged of them.As for the 205 gti r 1.9 from standard and you can find them clean 4 good money it wins every time.

I've owned both when I was about 20/21. First was an SR Nova, good fun to drive but lacked something that the 1.9 205 made up for. Plus the Novas are a bit of rot box as far as rust is concerned.
A 1.9 205 in good shape is very sought after these days as they're a bit of a classic. Great on the back roads but lift off over steer can very veryyyy snappy for the unaware. It certainly caught me out badly once..although I was lucky to keep her on the black stuff!

i would have to disagree with most of you and say id go for a mk1 nova (would have to be a mint un chavved version granted) strip it out and drop a C20LET calibra/cavalier turbo engine into it or a rebuilt redtop as they are like **** off a shovel easy and cheap to tune and im sorry to say it but would kill most of our beloved scoobys in a straight line! peugeot is french too need i say any more lol

Had a 1.9 Gti before and it was fast, very fast, but had no power steering, no air bags etc etc and felt like you would die if you hit a bicycle! haha

1.9 all the way............. but the steering is way to heavy for a town car to tool around at the 30 MHP limit and park LOL

I forgot about that... No power steering was great It handled like a kart once you lowered them. God I'd love another blast up a back road in a 19
