Would someone please tell me why my 1996 sti2 bounces of the limiter at 7200 rpm,i thought the sti was redlining at 8200!.
Is this possibly because i have yet to have it de-resticted,pleeeeeeeese help, cheers.

this would appear to be roughly right - the early STIs should rev to 7500 rpm - a 1000 rpm improvement over the standard wrx at the time.

peak power (275 ps using 100 RON fuel) is achieved at 6500 rpm anyway so there aint much point pushing it any higher.

the redline on the speedo of the last sti 2 I drove in january started at 7000 - so this sounds about right.

later STIs had lower friction pistons, improved block strength and better valves to allow 8200 rpm limiter - though in my experience (sti 5) the last 1000 rpm is a bit 'rough' and not a region I visit if I can help it - peak power is still 6500 rpm on the sti 3 , 4 , 5 etc.

7200 rpm is still a lot higher than the average repmobile engine ;-)

cheers,
